‘Red One’ Reaction: Is It Over for the Rock?

My problem with the rock is the more I started to see what type of person he was as he got away from wrestling the less I liked him

I personally think Stone Cold whips the ass of Hogan and The Rock for GOAT wrestler of all time.

The Rock career in the toilet at the this point and studios need to stop booking him. His last some what impressionable film was Shazam and that didnt do well. His movies have become worse and worse. Audiences are tired of him.

The problem is you guys are talking about the Rock. The Rock is the coolest guy on the planet. But the Rock doesn’t do movies. Dwayne Johnson does movies. Dwayne Johnson is incredibly lame and out of touch and just generally sucks. I will never show up for a Dwayne Johnson movie. If the Rock shows up on Raw I’m immediately seeing what happened

1. VL is absolutely correct here (and as a PoC as well it really hurts saying) but Hogan's the GOAT. Keep in mind only in the 90s when the mic work went awesome- the 80s promos were really awful (but comedically insane) because they were handicapped by the whole wrestling is real thing (cf. handchecking in the NBA) and wrestlers were only carried by their personality and their character and boy did, Bollea really carry the industry.

2. The problem with the Rock is ultimately, as Simmons and Van pointed out, he can't act- what he is, and always will be is some sort of contrived character- and eventually it shows- like the FF films had some camp sincerity in it- especially as Simmons stated with the unintentional comedy and Diesel really believes his Charger could do everything from opening a tin of tuna to bumping a nuclear tipped missile off course, but the moment the Rock enters the frame, it becomes a franchise, it becomes somewhat phony and contrived.

And there lies the rub, the Rock doesn't make movies, much more films. He makes corporate vehicles. If Edgelord Supreme Elon made a Tesla x Transformers (or in this climate, Male/FemaleFormers) with Michael Bay, there's no doubt Captain Rocky is there, first in line, to star in it. He's a shill, period.

That movie is meant for families with kids. Same thing people started saying about Adam Sandler. He started making these odd ball family movies that a lot of grownups don't like, but little kids love and they just keep making him money. Now idk why Red One was a theatre release. I guess because of the money they spent they wanted to try and get some of it back. It should've been a Netflix or Prime production and the movie would've been fine. If you have kids go watch it. They'll enjoy it. If you're a grownup just going to see it, buy a ticket for another movie

Last Action Hero is severely underrated.. I loved it as a boy. Watched it again a couple years back & it holds up 💯💯💯💯💯.

Simply, the Rock is not a good actor. His movies are also not good. He's the Rock in every movie. No range. Same character, probably unintentional. His arrogance got him in trouble in the Fast and DC franchises. WWE Fans didn't want him back against Roman and acted like it was his decision to change the main event. He's popular amongst general fans of movies and wrestling, but he carries himself with some entitlement and it shows. Tries very hard to remain not just adored, but relevant.

The Rock has too much of an ego to be a secondary character, he wants to be the star of his movies. Bautista cares about the quality of the role, he's also smarter at choosing scripts and directors.

Like he won't be doing many other rehashed sequels. I believe he has way more range than Tim Allen. Just not the lucky timing.

It's been over. The Rock got overexposed. He plays himself in everything, and Black Adam was the bottom that finally fell out. Cena and Bautista have tried very different things. They don't play themselves, they try. The Rock doesn't try.

Wait. Wait. Wait. Wait. The Rock is the best all-around wrestler who was a world champion, who could carry a match, carry the company, and give mic-drop promos? No. Hogan was huge and has 4 out of 5 of those attributes, but Ric Flair is the only guy who is genuinely 5 out of 5 for all those skills. He could have a great match with almost anyone. He was having great matches in his 50s. He was the champ and made his opponents believable champions when he dropped the belt because he could sell and work with anyone. Stone Cold may be a close second ahead of Hogan because he could actually wrestle, but Hogan was a terrible wrestler. It was a miracle Hogan carried the Ultimate Warrior at Wrestlemania 6. The Rock was great, no doubt, but he never fully surpassed Austin. They were close, but Austin was the hottest babyface/heel ever. You could give Rock the edge on mic work ahead of Austin, but Stone Cold was also great on the stick. No one is close to Flair on the mic, though. Flair also had some all-time great matches. Hogan never had an all-time great match. You could argue he had a handful, maybe. The only reason Hogan and Rock had their great Wrestlemania match was mainly the energy they fed off of the crowd. Flair is old school, but if you’re talking about the all-around greatest world champion who is excellent at everything, it’s Flair—end of story.

Batista and cena are easily better actors. Cena has the same skills to be a good talker on the mic

It’s funny people think rock was add libbing during his wrestling career lol he didn’t even write his own stuff. Rock the wrestler is 100% produced. Credit to him for the delivery but just like he is now it’s a corporate committee.

He's just never really been a movie star though, at least not on the level he claimed to be or marketed himself as.

If you make a 100-150m Rock movie, you'll make a decent profit and maybe a big one depending on whether it gets past the Chinese censors and gets a full release there. If you make a 300-500m Rock movie, you will lose your ass and people will get fired.

Too bad they had all of this negativity for a movie they didn't even see before watching it. Bill's being intentionally obtuse. Anyway, Red One was a very fun movie Christmas movie. It had different takes on Santa and the reindeer, both very imaginative and fun. On my list for Christmas movies

Nah you guys are nuts. I get it that we all wanna see The Rock in something really great that hits across a whole bunch of demographics but Red One is fun! It’s good for what it is! It’s a nice lil Christmas comedy mostly aimed for mid-teens. But there’s stuff in it for everyone. It’s not a bad movie by any means unless you’re going into it expecting It’s A Wonderful Life or some uplifting masterpiece. It’s a solid fun little christmas adventure that I enjoyed.

It’s all about expectations. I had ordinary expectations for this, and they were surpassed. Nick Kroll in particular had me dying laughing in his 5 minute role in this 😆
