Don't Buy Kia and Hyundai! Insurance Companies Refusing Coverage

Honda and Toyota have used immobilizers on their entry-level Vehicles since the 90s.. They were always very popular cars and we're at high risk of being stolen.. Kia/HYUNDAI cheaped out and did not do the same.. NOW KIA AND THE OWNERS WILL PAY THE PRICE..

Im very concerned that even though my model has a push button start, they wont notice until after they have already broken one of my windows.

This could turn into a PR nightmare for them.

It just goes to show how Kia/Hyundai tries to cheap out on everything.

I received a notice from Hyundai to come for a software update on my alarm system for my Elantra. 2018 base model manual transmission. Most reliable car I've ever had. Sorry, lost my train of thought. It's a manual. Sadly, not many people can drive one so I'm prob safe. However, I'll update the software.

I was considering getting a 2021-2023 Santa Fe Calligraphy & I have Allstate. So I hope they wouldn’t give me a problem with insuring that model since it usually has the engine immobilizer system

I Knew Something Was Up When This Salesman Was Particular About The Insurance Company, Then I Thought He Mentioned It Might Be Hard To Get Certain Insurances I Wondered Why. Unfortunately Most People Don't Take Care Of Their Cars Because They Are Cheaper And They Want To Move Up To Something Else After 2-4 Years.

My mom got a letter the other day, we have to Hyundai's and the letter said that we need to put locks on our steering wheels. they weren't saying that they were going to kick us off the insurance I think insurance companies just aren't going to accept new clients but existing ones get to stay😐😑
Hopefully you Hyundai and Kia figure this out like Honda did

If you’re buying either brand you’re looking for trouble.

This only refers to a key ignition and 2015 to 2019
If you have push button ignition the cars are fine because they come with the engine immobilizer
And they're still selling these cars like water
And yes they should hold tic tock responsible for all the thefts

Yeah, when I was checking with my Insurance Company on prices for a Kia Telluride and a Nissan Armada They quickly let me know that they're not gonna be insuring any more Kias regardless of what model. 😯😯

Maybe they should punish the thieves instead of placing the blame on everything else. Many of these kids just get released. And they will catch these kids when they want to using the traffic cameras.

Easy solution, drive a stick. Kids can't steal them.

At what point can Hyundai/Kia sue the school system for not teaching kids that they're not supposed to steal? Of course the schools system can sue parents for having those kids in the first place. And we can all pick up our pitchforks and march to Adam about it.

We have a 2020 Kia Soul. They just installed the software update. However, I keep seeing in social media a lot of posts in our area from Hyundai and Kia being stolen or people trying to break into the car and then leaving a mess, or reports of people finding their vehicles down the street, etc. One of the individuals affected said his insurance told him they will fix it but when it is time to renew the insurance they will not do it.

Rumors is that the software updates are working and that cars can still be stolen simply using pliers to turn the ignition.

Currently dealing with this and nobody wants to insure my car what can I do? It's a shame because the car has been nothing but reliable and I'm almost done paying it off.

I have a 2018 kia soul. Was paying 250 per month with progressive. Got a quote from state farm for significantly less, but when i went to start the policy they wouldn't write it. Other companies that would write a policy would only do it for 400-500 per month just for basic coverage

I own a 2015 Kia optima lx I took it to the dealership a week ago and they fixed the software required for the car to have a kill switch which will prevent theft. however, after 3 days of driving the car my engine seized, and died while driving! I had To call triple AAA to get my car towed , luckily I had road side assistance, I called the dealership over the weekend and they said to call back on Tuesday after labor day to find out if my car qualifies for a free engine replacement, keeping fingers crossed!

I will update depending on what the car dealer tells me next week, In the mean time, I have no car to drive.

Progressive refused coverage for our two Hyundai Elantra Limited models, even though they are both push button start. GEICO still offered coverage, but we've been with them for a bit. This is in Vegas. Never again will I buy a Hyundai / KIA.

Just bought a Kia and my insurance of 11 years will not cover it with my usual full coverage. They only will do liability 😮 This is crazy! It’s not my fault there is theft of kia or any kind of car …. Why do I get punished for buying another Kia and can’t get full coverage!!!

My insurance rates have been constant last 2 years but when my Geico policy most recently renewed, it almost doubled the premium. I used another family Nissan suv Vin similar to my Santa Fe. Guess what. Priced same as past rates. Rate increase 100% bc of Hyundai. Time to sell. 1st the Theta 2 blown engine replaced warranty crap and now this. Time to trade in.

My friend's old brother drives 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe. His car never theft.but engine catched fire on the freeway 3 months ago. He will buy Toyota or Lexus.

GEICO dropped me and my 4 car policy because we bought my daughter a used 2017 Elantra.

My 27 yr old just bought a Kia and got it insured within an hour.

I am currently looking to buy a new SUV and liked the 2024 Telluride. Based on all these negative stories Kia is no longer on my list of possible auto's. i would suggest anyone thinking about buying one check with your current auto insurer to see what their coverage is and how much it will go up when you purchase a Kia or Hyundai. Nice looking car but why take the risk.

Just gave my 2017 Sonata back to the bank..Insurance rise to $340 per month

Guess what - all those engine replacement spend that Kia/Hyundai had to shoulder due to engine fires fiasco / oil-drinking poor quality engines, other safety recalls.....they will surely recoup those $$'s back. Where? Watch your next service bills. I don't blame hardworking folks who dare not touch any Kia or Hyundai vehicle.

There is another problem with the 2013 Kia. It could catch on fire! Who is addressing this issue ???

Called NHTDS regarding the fire issue with the kia and was told that the HECU Fuse needs to be replaced! Letters will be mailed out in March!

Just went and test drive the telluride, I really liked it but now after seeing this … forget it ! I’ll go with the Mazda cx90 thanks

Kia pays my insurance

I had liberty mutual insurance they would not renew my policy so we switch to Progressive now progressive is not renewing my policy and I’m having to find an insurance company that will take my 2012 Kia Optima with 339,000 miles that has a push button start not a key to start so I do not understand why they are giving me so much problems with insurance since I have a push button.

Come to canada, we have immobilizers as standard
