Use aluminum from Quebec, please. And use Ontario steel for pipelines for western oil and gas.

When the dummies in Germany shut down their nuclear reactors and begged the world for LNG because wind farms don’t work well in winter, that was our signal to stack nuclear for domestic and export. If we had jumped on the opportunity to fill where other nations fail, we would be FAR ahead in powering AI data centers right now. People are investing in the rich Middle East because they have the energy to power AI and we currently do not.

That's why we have huge growth in stationary battery storage, that you didn't mention of course.

How about a new transmission line from Quebec to Ontario so we can buy their cheap hydro instead of wasting money on SMR's.

Batteries can provide synthetic inertia and frequency control. Generators can run in sync condense mode to provide spinning inertia without generation or fuel use. Sync condense mode on a generator is basically a large motor. Spain needs grid batteries, they hardly have any.

Looking at Tantalus' website it seems they have a head office in the US. Why are we taking advice from them when their government is threatening Canada. If I am buying oranges from countries other than US then we should not be advised by people that are unused to dealing with our socialist hydro grids. The US grid is built for private profit and is in such a state that it is shown to cause fires. Canada should deal with "consultants" whose loyalties are unquestionable and are used to crown corporations that will not let their hard assets deteriorate to the point of neglect. IMHO

Yes indeed! Let's strategically build our east - west transCanada electrical transmission system connecting all our provinces using the best technology, decentralized generation and grid battery storage enriching all our rural areas across our beautiful country 🇨🇦.

Does that mean we have another electricity tax coming...it was grid "modernization" plans by the liberal leftist looters that increased our bills equal to our mortgages

I'm a little surprised with all the sentiment of energy and sensors helping to balance supply / demand, there has been little talked about concerning virtual power plants (aka VPPs)

Regarding firming up the grid - utility scale battery installations often occur ahead of schedule and on budget, also the tech is getting cheaper and better... vs any form of nuclear, which is often (always?) years over schedule and over budget - even before considering waste management. I vote for the battery storage in my neighbourhood.

Hey, Spain had 7 nuclear reactors. Guess what I think 4 were offline. 2 for maintenance & 2 BC the electricity was too expensive. So it seems nuclear was at least 50% responsible for the blackout situation.

Ответить
@pvmagnus
@pvmagnus - 22.05.2025 19:03

BTW Spain is planning to shut all their nuclear reactors by 2030 & replace them with renewables, batteries & hydro.

And also a heck of a lot of domestic solar & batteries. Something we SHLD have been doing TWO decades ago. Right.

SM(N)R dont work in the west bc they are too expensive. They wont work in a free market. Plus theres all the waste & security issues which make them impractical & basically a sill idea.

This was a good technical presentation, but extremely well done. Thanks for not shying away from this issue just because some people might not understand it. We need this kind of information available to the folks that do understand, so the policies built on facts, not feelings, can be written and executed in the marketplace. Keep this level of information coming. Thanks!

Transformers are going to be in high demand and the age of existing transformers is a problem. The ramping of transformer production made in Canada needs to be a priority and in the short term.

The power outages in Spain and Portugal were the direct result of switching to renewable energy and to make matters worse they decided to to demolish the generation of power by traditional methods - Q - Why were they in such a hurry to demolish the conventional generators?

Increase the population + electric hot water tank + heat pump + EV. What's gonna happen to our gas and oil industry? Replaced by real estate and education and end up like China evergrande. 2010 china gdp was 25- 30% real estate and we all know what happen
