Not to seem shallow but the haircut did not look good on Katy Perry the way it did on Miley Cyrus. She also seemed to be trying too hard during all these new eras. She needs her sound to change not her looks.

Katy Perry is having a midlife crisis. She's 40 years old and it is extremely difficult for women to age in our youth obsessed society. ESPECIALLY women in the public eye. There's so much pressure for women to be in their "prime" for as long as possible that this is what happens. Women of a certain age do everything they can to stay in that prime. Jennifer Lopez is doing the same thing. That's what the album, tour, and movie were all about. Her moment when she was in her "prime" was the y2k era and those aesthetics were v trendy at the time and I think she saw that as her opportunity for a come back. It really clicked for me with that clip from the documentary that went viral where she was talking about how she liked to wear her hair a certain way because it reminded her of when she was young. Katy is doing the same thing. I think she saw the hype over Kesha and Lady Gaga releasing new music and saw it as her opportunity for a come back.

I feel like Miley kinda stole Rihanna’s look or was at least hugely influenced. I’ve always felt that way and if you were around and an early Rihanna fan I think you can maybe agree.

For most pop artists I'm familiar with, I know something about their story. I know where they came from, how they've evolved, and that all helps me solidify their branding in my mind. Katy Perry though? It's like she just appeared one day in the 2000s. She has no story. I don't even mean that she's an industry-manufactured star. There are other industry-manufactured stars who still somehow give themselves a story to remember.

Her next rebrand will be country music as a trad wife. Guaranteed. It's the only path left for her and Nashville loves when culture vultures come their way. She'll be their next Post Malone.

What I think Katy Perry Needs to do to save her Brand:

1. Real Therapy and/or Shadow Work.
2. New Beauty Regimens that Upgrade the Face & Body.
3. A Completely New Team/New Management.
4. A New Style and/or Aesthetic that can actually fit within her brand.
5. A Bunch of New Producers who she has never worked with.
6. Maybe think about signing with another Record Label or Go Completely Independent.

I think that If Katy does at least 3 or More of these steps, she could have a decent rollout and era that Old Fans and New fans could actually love.

The issue is she is not an artist shes a product. She doesn't seem to have the soul or creative vision to keep evolving and making music. The reason Gaga is doing so well is she lives and breathes her art and her music has depth to it. She programs in the studio, writes the music, and some of the instrumental tabs, she creates a good amount of tracks that are actually about something real. She directs her stage shows and appearances.Katy is non of that. All of her work is bubblegum pop written and produced by other people with some input. She hasn't grown up musically and feels really disingenuous. It s all about staying relevant rather than genuine. Shes rich now and just doesn't have any reason to strive. The production quality on the music and the show is awful as well.

would LOVE to hear you speak about copycats/or how to take inspiration effectively/the right way. please speak on this! not enough creators do, and i'd love to hear your insight. you make a lot of tutorials/how-tos and inspire a lot of other creatives, so you're bound to have some people that might take it slightly too far.

Miley was never true to herself, she took everything from Madonna and Britney and others. Each album had another celebrity aesthetic. She was Madonna, then a 70's/80's rock star, then Tina Turner... I knew, since she was 15, she's gonna use sexuality and vulgarity to re brand herself. But it has been done a million times. For some reason, a female "rebel" is a always a $l*t.

Cozying up to billionaires, working with a r*pist, and evicting nuns, but then trying to brand herself as any kind of good person, let alone a feminist is repulsive. That's why it's not working for her. Maybe if she leaned in to being the straight up villain she clearly is, as evidenced by her own actions, that might work for her. At least it would be authentic.

I feel like Teenage Dream doomed her as well as lifted her. One of the Boys Pop/Rock was iconic in my eyes. At that time, sge was angry, messy but determined. She needs more bite. I'd actually love to see her react to this flop feedback with an angry album. You dislike how we are talking about you? Tell us, Katy! This time right now is PERFECT for a Reputation/ Scarlett album. Make it a Pop Rock album and I'm here for it.

I think the problem is that she has been out of touch in a way. The fact that she worked with Dr.Luke now was the part that fans aren't happy with for good reason. I think she needs to return to that era of teenage dream but mix with the Katy of now or experment with her original sound. Most importantly not have Dr. Luke in the mix this time. Its ok to be inspired but make sure to add your unique flair to make you.

When I first saw Katy Perry it was a PBS special, just her and a guitar on stage singing about how she wants to be one of the boys. And I was like this girl is so talented! I didn't think she was going to make it big, I just thought she was like how I felt about Tori Amos when I first discovered her at age 16. I liked that she was different, that she had her own sound, that she wrote her own songs! I think she needs to go back to that. Just a girl with her guitar being herself which is a lot like Zooey Deschanel that's who Katy Perry is! Quirky, silly, colorful, and fun! That doesn't age out. What does aged out is the superficiality of having other people create your brand instead of you being authentic to who you are, no matter what that is! Even if it means she goes back to singing Christian songs whatever floats your boat. But she needs to do whatever it is she wants instead of doing what she thinks everyone else wants that's the key❤

Katy Perry is basic. Through and through. Some industry execs gave her a persona and she just isn’t interesting or clever enough to do better.

Just be basic Katy. Paltrow made a whole second life as a wannabe “lifestyle influencer” and has been widely successful.

May be time time to hang up music altogether

Let's get real now. She has ALL the possibilities to hire a good team to bring her on top of charts. She just doesn't wants that. Perhaps because she thinks she knows better now, while her whole career was set by other people. She didn't wrote ANY of her songs, HELLO.

Okay, but the hair cut thing made sense and there’s nothing wrong with going with it… I also don’t think her team thought the “key to all of that was a hair cut.” I think she may have had some say in that because she sounded authentic in that interview clip. Also, that is something artists do all the time.

The thing is, her music at the time that sucked. She had that song “Swish Swish”, or whatever it was called, with a lot of stars in the music video. That song sucked. She had another song with a rapper that also sucked. I think during this time, she was kind of annoying or problematic … I can’t remember exactly what happened, though.

A reason why she's fallen from grace is bad behavior, like working with Dr.Luke on a "feminist" song and then doubling down. Or promoting a space company with Jeff Bezos, and framing it as "women's empowerment". And a long list of other controversies.
People can forgive cringe, awkward flops, even the occasional bad album or song.
But we're in an era where people don't tolerate bad behavior from privileged celebs.
