Bobby Sands died the very day I was born.

Mum was crying her eyes out, being a proud Irish patriot, forced to emigrate by the oppression and the war, but she loves Ireland, boy!
She's home now, as it happens, with my Brother and his children.

May the Fifth, 1981 was the most emotional day of her then young life, being just 21.

She always paid her An Phoblacht donations and collected for the cause in the Irish bars around Yorkshire.

She always said, as one Irish patriot left this world, another, Barry Slaven was entering it.

God rest ye Bobby.

Its so sad that people tend to forget or don't even know about Muriel's story which is just as sad if not more so than Grace's story and the events that would occur over the next 12 months or so that would make Grace's and the children's lives even more tragic. RIP Brave men and women.

I'm Irish American and grew up in New York City. My five Uncles Fee would spend Saturdays and Sundays picketing the British Embassy in support of Bobby Sands and his fellow patriots! There was much sadness the day Bobby died! He and his comrades impacted many people all over the world! Thank you Erin Sands for your beautiful rendition!
