The Dbd lore confirms Afton "woke up" once he became Springtrap, implying the 30 years that passed were not conscious for him: He literally woke up, 30 years later after dying.

Spring trap is frolicking through a field of corpses to that one beetles song right now. (Do You Believe in Magic)
