Not what I personally play souls games for. I love the solo adventure and journey.

That difficulty actually makes me much MORE interested in this. I hope they dont nerf everything to hell a month after release now. Good informative review. I am actually interested in this now lol

For souls fans that like rogue likes(me) not for souls fans that like building characters from the ground up. Both types of fans can exist and both matter. Every game isn't for every person.
Also thank you for giving the game an honest review and not just saying its great because more FromSoft/elden ring

I’m a souls fan but I’ll pass on this one. For me it’s a solo journey, just like I didn’t like FO76 compared to the other falllout titles.

they put radahn tier boss fights after a 30 to 60 minute runs. to play with randoms... yeah no im good. i cant be bothered to convince my friends to buy this discord grinder or be at the mercy of randoms.

Well FromSoftware, your multiplayer ventures are pretty much wrapped up with that weird game and whatever’s coming for the Switch 2. Now it’s time to get moving and reward our patience and tolerance with a Bloodborne 2 or Dark Souls 4.

So Elden Ring Mixed with Fortnite and Monster Hunter?

Very good review, but I wanted to hear about how it feels in single player as well (since the two choices seem to be 1 or 3 players, according to the devs).

It is interesting to think that FromSoft wanted to take their well established, finely honed franchise and make a game out of it that's of a completely different ethos. Just like the narrator said here, in Elden Ring you can die and go right back in to practice again and again. But in this roguelike structure, you have to start all over... No souls to collect from your corpse - a staple of the franchise and the genre it created. No repeating bosses until you perfect it. Makes no sense to me that they'd do this.

So no solo play?

Cool idea. Just not what I want from games like this.

I want to see the maniacs who will clear these runs completely solo.

Seems pretty mediocre to me, tbh. I don't play fromsoft games for the multiplayer. Sucks that we have two fromsoft games back to back that focus so heavily on multiplayer.

I would buy it if it was $20-30. for $40-50 there are way better games available in the market which were released this year. For eg., Clair Obscur Expedition 33. Does this game have a story, like Elden ring or dark souls have a story? Apart from final bosses, players probably know the moveset of every enemy they will face. I am not saying the game has no value, but it doesn't deserve it's $40 price.

I was equally skeptical, when it was first announced. I was able to play the network test and had a lot of fun. The repetition was my worry, but some of that has been alleviated from different reviewers. The constant death thing is not a worry for me lol. I'm hyped for the harshness, but you're right about the general player base probably not being on the same page. I'm picking it up day of release.

The whole shtick of Souls games is to keep pressing on even if you die, but this is quite the opposite: don’t die, ever.. This is the Souls game normies thought Dark Souls was.

They’ve been reusing the same animations and assets since Dark Souls. It’s getting tiresome at this point. It’s about time they brought something truly new to the table. Even so, it still received overly generous review scores.

I played ER when it came out but it was too hard for me. I farmed that camp in the beginning for souls but even after hours I could still be killed from making one small mistake. I’m used to games were you get much more powerful when levelling but even the grunts could kill me if I wasn’t paying attention. That’s fine for bosses but having to pay so much attention for every fight was too much.

I don’t play online with others. I do love all FromSoftware titles, but I’m probably gonna pass on this.
Everything I’ve seen indicates that you need to play with others, which I would not do.

Beyond that, not a fan of Rogue like / Lite, etc in the first place, but would try this out if I could solo it effectively

One thing I haven't heard any reviewers mention was just how levelled their characters were when they tried to beat the game solo, were they already maxed with bis items or on a brand new char?

It would be like judging hades or dead cells as impossibly difficult games just because it's nigh-impossible to beat them on your very first run without any metaprogression

I heard this game doesn’t have very much variety in map variation and loot spawn. Is the content the game does have (dungeons, bosses) peak? Any Leyndell or Stormveil level locations?

I'll give it a chance. The only recent FromSoft game I haven't touched so far is armored core, because I just think that mechs are boring (imo).

it's certainly a good game, but it's not a good roguelike by any means.
you won't get 1000 hours out of nightreign like out of binding of isaac.
you will get 80ish good hours though (unless you're really good and oneshot the game).

There is no way in hell I'm gonna support this. God forbid they start making these kind of games more often. The point of all souls games is to feel alone and in constant danger. I fail to see the point of this, but, hey: to each their own, as they say. I just hope this is a one off and not that now they are totally mainstream they try to appeal to Fortnite players.

FYI, this game can be soloed. Dom's Roundtable posted a playthrough vid. I think the really skilled players would like it.

I was unsure going in but I had an absolute blast playing tonight. Playing with my ER friends though. This game would suck with randoms and no voice chat wouldn't be as fun for me.

The most hype I got for this was the reveal trailer. Since then, the more I’ve learned of the game the more disinterested I’ve become and that’s a first for FromSoft in my personal experience.

I hope you realize that you can play about 95% of ER with 3 player coop. I see a good amount of reviews that seem like they think 3 player coop is new in Nightreign. You can even do Bloodborne with 3 players.
