The entrance is at a lower elevation than they are. It must have collapsed and filled the caverns with water.

Just a couple of comments guys, I've been traveling in Mexico since 1952 and have at least 300,000 KM driving that country. I have allways been interested in MesoAmerican archaeology. I have never seen any Aztec/Mexica petroglyphs, the Aztecs did mostly carving in stone like their Sun stone. Secondly the second I saw your petroglyphs it reminded me of a renering of a Kachina Doll. As far as a Montezuma headress, look at any codex, as ruler, Montezuma wears a different style of headress. Good Luck Guys, Rick

Did that first cave truly dead end or did it drop downward at the end and was filled with soft dirty? A digging mission needs to happen there.
