Unfortunately, most people marketing don't understand sound and circuitry fundamentally. So, you'd have to teach then every single scenario...which is just sad.

I've given up on making my songs louder than everybody's. It makes them sound worse. mastering is about balance and maybe a bit louder that's it.

these kinds of techniques helped me realize how much unnecessary sub my mixes have. it makes it harder to hear other things on some speakers when the sub is overtaking everything, and if u tame the low end it allows so much more dynamic range (since the sub is usually the loudest part of the mix in my experience)

That's the secret sauce, frequency balance. And always has been. If your mix has the right amount of energy throughout the spectrum, getting loud is not hard 👍🏻

Shelving the low end is only part of the process. Only shelving it like in the example gives you weak low end.

Yea, getting the low end under control before adding loudness is key, maybe you loos a little bass at first but after gaining the headroom and boosting the signal back up you get more!
