Season 2 of Andor is a miracle and I'm very glad to be able to watch it. I just wish some of the story lines didn't feel so rushed. Thank you David and Patrick for your always entertaining discussions and episode re-caps.

I didn't like the writers resolution for Dedra. It was too convoluted and somehow against her character. She is supposed to be very intelligent, at least more than everyone of her coworkers, and Partagaz warned her once to "watch her back". She would be more careful covering her tracks. Also, Knowing that she made a mistake at Ferrix by going alone, that she was attacked by her boyfriend, again, being alone with him, it was a very stupid idea to confront Luthen by herself. For what he had done in the past I would have expected a hidden bomb in the Gallery. So, this explanation of being caught for hoarding sensitive information is dumb. Also given her combative nature she should at least have negotiated the information to her advantage to reduce the accusation, and not give it gratuitously to krennic and Heert.

I think the Tivik thing is sort of explained in that the rebels were basically ignoring that guy. He only wanted to speak to Andor, and everyone on Yavin is hyper concerned about in or outbound traffic every time we see them. They're terrified the base will be found (as it eventually is in ANH). Without Luthen, the only guy Cassian would simply break protocol for without hesitation at this point, I don't think anyone goes to Tivik before he gets himself killed by stromtroopers. At that point, the only person who would know is Bodhi, and Bodhi would have died with Saw on Jedha when they test-fire the Death Star. The one rebel guy (whose name I cannot recall right now) basically tells Andor "the only reason I'm letting you respond to this dude's comm is because the last three days have been wild as shit and I HAVE A BAD FEELING ABOUT THIS".

The wild thing about Andor, is there are more good hours in Andor than there are in all of the Star Wars films. Possibly more than there are across all the Star Wars shows. And even where you might get more from some other source/combination, none of the other Star Wars media crushes the bell curve this hard for 24 straight hours. It's all killer, no filler. Andor's good. Not just pretty good. Not just good for Star Wars. It's legitimately better than most other TV full stop.

I never saw Rogue One cuz it was panned so badly. But I love Andor. And waited till ep 12 to watch Rogue One. Which was wonderful to me. I think Luthen made Cass. And Andor, the series, gets us to see how Luthen created the most courageous and Machiavellian members of the Rebellion who ended up having the deepest faith in the cause.

Ok so the reason why the info Luthen gets is still important as well as Tivik in Rogue one. Is because they are aware of "a weapon" but they didn't know it was a planet killer til Cassian meets Tivik.

Luthen's info and sacrifice is partially used in the story to get the Rebel alliance to take it seriously. Like Cassian and Kleya say, "he died for this"

And even then Cassian has been grounded and they have this info which I doubt they would've allowed him to go to meet Tivik if not for this info because they expected it to be related.

So yeah its more of an alert message than anything imo

Eckhart’s Ladder had a short video, saying that in the original draft, Sculdon came to own a news media company that kept broadcasting the final senate speech by Mon Mothma, refusing to be censored by the ISB/the Empire. Whether this was for selfish reasons, Mothma being now «family», Sculdon being a Free Speech Advocate or a true believer in Mothma’s cause after the Ghorman Massacre, is unclear. But Perrin and Sculdon’s wife have been flirting all season, so would make sense if they got together as left behind Rebel spouses, with Sculdon in prison or on the run just as Mon!

He definitely doesn’t know that the Death Star is a planet killer going into rouge one, they make a point to never call it that in Andor.
And getting a random claim like that from tivik wouldn’t have seen any action from the rebellion as it’s completely uncorroborated. I’m shocked you guys didn’t watch directly into rouge one because the viewing experience is definitely intended and the sync is pretty much flawless. It gives a way more complete narrative arc for Cassian (and my goat melshi).

It makes perfect sense to me Andor needed independent confirmation about the Death Star. That’s why he asked open ended questions. I don’t think it’s a plot hole at all. It works perfectly fine.

Dedra got off lightly.

but if she'd not been obsessed with Axis she'd have been promoted to work on the Death Star and died there...

But would she?

If she'd not been scavanging for info then the plans for the weapon wouldn't have leaked. So she'd have been working on a fully operational and non-explody battle station.

Ah, I'm sure the Imperial in fighting and hubris would have brought them down anyway.

I think Andor has given Rogue One a bit of a bump in quality...tho it's still flawed I really enjoyed my rewatch.

With respect to David bumping against how on-the-nose some of the political themes were because they map so obviously to the news you see today (i.e., genocide, misinformation/the death of truth), implying that the writers went out of their way to do this -- I think this off base. As far as I've read, all the scripts for this season were locked down before the WGA strike (May '23). This is before Oct 7th and before the last election! Gilroy merely studied how fascism works throughout history and the current times are following the exact same game plans as laid out by previous empires. The themes are not on-the-nose as cheap emotional bait by a writer, they are in your face because they're timeless and currently present.

Here is an explanation of how the info that Luthen gets from Lonnie and passed on to Klea matches up with beginning of Rogue One. Lonnie gives Luthen the following bits and pieces he gleaned from Dedra files; Jedha, Kyber, Galen Erso, Gorman, and Energy Program is actually a Suoer Weapon called, "The Death Star". Luthen has Klea repeat the pieces, but over the course of the episode she seems to forget that the weapon's name is "The Death Star" and only gives Cassian the other pieces when they meet up. Cassian seems to have his doubts about the info Klea provides, but takes it back to Council who even have more doubts about the info. Without the info from Luthen and Klea, I dont think Draven even tells Cassian about Tivek. Its only because of the bread crumbs from Luthen that the rebels realize Tivek who was with Saw on Jedha may have some valuable info that may provide more insight on the Super Weapon.

Ep 10 Spoilers!:
Commenting before watching this because I’ve yet to catch up, my wife won’t watch Andor, and I just finished ep10 and feel the need to tell somebody how much I needed that perfect Brandon Roberts score at the end. The fade-which I don’t think I’ve seen before and reminded me most of how the light changes during an eclipse-along with the music playing through the credits gave me the environment I needed to start processing the big feelings that Gilroy has once again made me feel about what happens to characters in a space wizard, laser sword universe.
It’s trivial, of course, but one thing the pandemic took was the chance for this series to get a Sopranos-length lifespan. If it had, it would be spoken about in the same breath as that and other shows by more of the general public.

Confirming the Intel was necessary for the rebels. They would not have taken a single source seriously. So getting confirmation from Tivik doesn’t negate Luthen’s contribution. This is referenced by the general before Cassian leaves.
Tony Gilroy referenced Le Carre in interviews, and knows that two independent sources is basic spycraft.

I just wanted point out a very funny joke, imo. These last few eps have a scene in which the Alliance tells Saw to tone it down on Jedah and Saw insists he's not on Jedah. Then in Rogue One, Jin says she knows Saw but doesn't know where he is so she can't help and Cassian say "No problem, we know where Saw is". I just found this very humorous.

The only thing I need after this amazing Andor journey is sharing our love for Andor with guys who appreciate its value. So thank you guys.

The Andor series is and will remain an enchanted interlude in all the Star Wars history.

All we can hope is that, even if they come back to "family" audience productions (as the OT is), Andor has sustainably established a standard of quality nobody can ignore.🙏

Did you notice the last word Luthen said to Kleya is the same that began their partnership? :
"When I say"move" , you move....
MOVE!" 😢
Luthen has been the architect of the rebellion that MOVED every piece of his chessboard that wanted to be part if it.

Tivik was a rebel spy embedded with Saw Gerrera. When Saw's partisans capture the Imperial cargo pilot defector who was sent by Galen Erso to deliver the message about the Death Star and its weakness, Tivik travels to Kafrene to share this information with Cassian, his contact. Luthen would have no idea that Galen Erso was sympathetic to the rebel cause or that he was building a flaw in the weapon. This is why he considered the information about the mere existence of the weapon and its connections to Ghorman/Jedha worth dying for. Luthen and Galen's messages just so happen to reach the rebel leaders days apart. Who knows if the unsanctioned mission in Rogue One would have been undertaken without Andor and the other rebels getting this intel confirmed through multiple sources. Without Luthen, all they'd have to go on is Tivik.
