Oh come on, maybe 'dummy' is referring to the meaning of 'a fake'. And what do babies think their sucking on when given a dummy? That's right. Plump and juicy ones.

I have never said or heard said “waste paper basket” until this video. We just call it a trash can.

Well, in Italy we use to say ground floor for the "main entrance" of a building. For example, in a building with seven floors the first is the one above the ground floor. So seven floors plus ground floor. And in the elevator (or lift) in this case we have 0 (for the ground floor) and 1 to 7. So my score goes to the Brits.

To be fair I have never heard someone call it a wastpaper basket, I could be wrong but most people would probably just call it a trashcan (correct me if Im wrong pls). (In north america btw)

I'm not British myself but I do have a British accent and i've had soo many Americans love my accent...I also use some words the American way over the British way, like over boot and trunk, I prefer trunk and over dummy and pacifier, I would use pacifier.

Bence 1. Kat ve zemin kat aynı şeyler olmalıydı fakat ne yazık ki değil. Benim de hala bazen kafam karışıyor. Fakat genelde bizim ülkemizde girişe zemin kat deniliyor. 1. Kat üstteki oluyor, saçma bence ama böyle maalesef.

I just realized that in Algeria we don't call the first floor or even the ground floor we just ignore that it exists like we start counting from zero hhhh😅😂
But I think that we count it as the ground floor as the British do and that sounds more logical to me

In Germany we also say ground floor like a lot of other european countries. In elevators the number for ground floor is zero. The american version is easier to count, but our version makes more sense.

The majority of these are half assed with seemingly no attempt at research as to where the word came from, geographic bias, or simple care for understanding by your audience. How about you look things up in greater depth instead of using the Google search result summary to fill in all your blank areas in your script.

I think ground floor makes sense because when you have floors underground, then the whole picture seems like whole numbers. Like -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, ...
How do you count or what do you call them in the States, though?

First floor makes more sense because in many buildings, the floor on the ground level is the basement, the first floor is ABOVE the basement. and its the first full floor (basements tend to be smaller in area)

I am a Saudi living in Sydney, in my country we use the American way so we start with floor one , herein Sydney they use the British way and I’m now living in floor one which is basically two as I used to in my country, as I tried both in daily living I would give this score to the American because its annoying to use the British way to count I’m literally don’t know how many floors in my building here in Sydney and I always confused numbers of floors with the actual floor

There used to be boxes on the back of carriages called a boot box, that's where boot comes from.

Dummy can be a word to define something that's not real and stands in for something else. Such as a display box in a shop tends to be a dummy box. Dummy in this case refers to it being a dummy teat
