Incredible scene. What people don't know is that Tom Selleck actually improvised this moment, shooting the guy that played Ivan in real life with a gun. Truly an amazing actor, so unpredictable
ОтветитьThat's the Navy Seal in him! Ivan was bad killing Vietnam Vets and using them for triggers. I would have done the same dam thing! BANG! CROCKETT DID THAT TO IN MIAMI VICE. HE SHOT THAT BASTARD THAT HE GOT OUT OF DEATH ROW THEN HE SHOOTS SHENA EASTON HIS WIFE!
ОтветитьSo this is where sterling got the idea for his rampage movie
ОтветитьThat's how MERICAH deals with Ruskis!🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
ОтветитьMy favorite episode.
ОтветитьI remember this a little different. I remember him saying "Mac didn't" right before he fired
ОтветитьAnd HBO was afraid to have Tony soprano commit murder because the lead in a show had never done that before. Well they were wrong about that clearly. The first was either Thomas magnum or sunny Crockett. They both did in 80s tv shows at least a decade before the sopranos even aired.
Anyway Tony soprano does commit a murder in the sopranos season 1. It did not kill the show and it was a success so there you go.
Everyone commenting seems to agree at how epic this particular moment was in the makeup of the show and the character of Thomas Magnum, both in the series itself and in the overall landscape of television at the time. A hugely popular, immensely likable guy such as Thomas is as well as how gifted Tom Selleck’s performance was and what does the show do? Why they raise the bar high, the actors, the fans, and the conversation it inspired in the zeitgeist actually broached often taboo issues other shows balked at giving license to for fear of the dreaded ratings tumble they were certain such a bold statement would absolutely bring down around the artistically cowardly heads, you see, questions about morality in television, such topics were considered to over the audience’s head, the studios were absolutely, without a doubt, certain of their opinion that the audience they depended upon was too dim and shallow for such things and it would only distract and confuse them, likely turning them off of the show. Successful executives have always been lucky television executives, because the majority of every popular show that has come along was peppered with “notes” from the studio heads for the producers, who either complied and passed the notes down to the writers or, completely ignored them and never even mentioned a lot of them to the writers much at all. They were the actual Hollywood types that were the actual artists who shaped the show, with their overall vision for their productions being the most important thing in the crafting of the series and individual storylines and character development. By gifting Thomas with a depth of depiction very rarely seen on television at the time, a morally questionable side to the main character, the franchise in a sense. It was a tremendous gamble for the actor and the production team, especially Donald Bellisserio and co. It turned out to be a very good decision and only enhanced the overall quality of the material and Sellecks portrayal. It quite honestly served to endear Magnum to his audience even more. Quite the feat, as he was already the most popular male actor in television and even unseated the perennial man’s man/woman’s man of the time, Burt Reynolds. A big time blow to Mr. Reynolds at the time. Seriously, it was a huge deal on the 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm gossip video rags, like the infant 1/2 “news” commentary show, The Inside Edition, hosted by a youthful toolbag by the name of Bill O’Reilly, in fact. Anyway, apologies for the essay, but only if you actually read the entire thing, otherwise, you shouldn’t have any opinion on it at all.
ОтветитьActual sound of a 1911 too.
ОтветитьPossibly one of the most shocking ending scenes in TV history….Magnum had enough of Ivan’s brutality and put an end to it. I watched it the night it aired and was caught completely off guard when Magnum asked “ Ivan, did you see the sunrise this morning “ ? Yes, why ? Ivan deserved to be taken out.
ОтветитьWhat no one seems to realize is that they would have had to kill Ivan's driver as well.
ОтветитьIf you're gonna send a man to Hell, make sure he has one last good memory.
ОтветитьI have to say that I would have done the same thing.
Cold-hearted killers like Ivan (and so many running around the world today killing people for no reason) don't deserve any mercy whatsoever. These kinds of people flaut our laws, breaking them while living under the protection of the very same laws.
I'm a peaceable kind of guy normally,, but when someone like this comes along, it pisses me off no end when they get away with it. This is the justice that they deserve and should get.
Tom Selleck, and Tom, Magnum, or left-handed Jerry used his right hand in that scene
ОтветитьGreatest ending to any tv show ever!
Greatest episode of the greatest tv show too!
This was an absolutely amazing moment in television history. Regardless of how well scripts are written or characters portrayed, the vast majority of television series moments are very predictable.
Thomas Magnum was a character who was the typical good guy hero and always did the moral thing in the name of justice. Everyone watching that moment expected something along the lines of Magnum replying: “Karma is going to catch up with you some day and you won’t see anymore sun rises” In that moment, NO ONE expected Magnum to shoot him; though everyone wanted him to. It was absolutely brilliant and I’m sure everyone watching that was completely shocked because that is just not the type of thing Thomas Magnum does.
Thomas Magnum is the guy who makes sure that the bad guys fall into a mud puddle or a manure truck and then the uniformed cops show up 5 seconds later and handcuff them. Up until that point, he just wasn’t the man who would shoot an unarmed man regardless of how much he deserved it. Thomas Magnum became a much deeper, more complex and authentic character after that scene.
the one moment in TV that everyone who saw it , will never forget. The stunned silence was deafening
ОтветитьIt was during this season... I think it was season 3 when Tom Selleck won the Emmy for Best Actor in a Drama TV series.
ОтветитьGreat episode
ОтветитьAh so this was what Archer was referencing 😂
ОтветитьMagnum P.I. No More Mr. Nice Guy.Episode. (smile)
ОтветитьI remember watching the episode and yelling "YES!" They made Ivan evil, not just a bad man. There was no country to arrest, no court to convict., and he was on the way to activate more evil.
ОтветитьBased
ОтветитьAs iconic as Elliot Ness pushing Nitty off the building in "The Untouchables"
ОтветитьBooyah!-Kashah!
ОтветитьDid you see the sunrise this morning?
ОтветитьI clearly remember seeing this episode on TV. Some things you never forget
ОтветитьYou don’t kwow Thomas Sullivan Magnum if you’ve don’t have seen this scene.
ОтветитьBest ending EVERRRR
ОтветитьIvan, did you see the sunrise this morning? limitless aura behind those words, so menacing, yet so pure.
ОтветитьI was a fan of the show at the time, but now I am 55 and have come to realize that the character of Thomas Magnum was the most iconic television character of my generation. The show had a great ensemble cast as well. Magnum only used his 1911 or any other firearms when it was justified and as a last resort. Great show and an unforgettable viewing experience seeing this scene for the first time back in the day.
ОтветитьI’m 29 years old and saw this scene for the first time after getting to the end of the episode a few hours ago. And wow, I can’t even imagine how powerful it must’ve been back then but I can say the effect is still huge now. My jaw was literally on the floor and I couldn’t believe he had shot him in the face. Love the dark undertone season 3 started with, can’t wait to keep watching and getting to the end of the show. My second favorite episode was when Magnum found out Michelle was still alive. That one also had a serious tone to it and that’s really what’s most enjoyable in my opinion
ОтветитьDid you see Regis this morning?
ОтветитьGreat scene totally justified
ОтветитьFor much of its run time, Magnum P.I. could be a silly show. It's moments like this where you suddenly remember that Magnum was a species forces veteran.
ОтветитьIvan……. Did you see the sunrise this morning?
ОтветитьMagnum knew Ivan had to be stopped at all costs
ОтветитьThis showed the depth of Magnum’s character. He was mostly portrayed as the free wheeling goofy man child, but this scene was necessary to remind us he was a battle hardened vet that could be efficiently deadly if he needed to be.
ОтветитьLieutenant Tanaka probably suspected Magnum killed Ivan but decided to look the other way and made sure the evidence was lost.
ОтветитьThe moment that took the predictable TV detective genre back to its noir roots.
ОтветитьMagnum knew what it would take, to put him in the right state of mind, to drop the hammer on Ivan... and, hoped Ivan would unwittingly oblige ---
ОтветитьThe bad guy is Bo Svenson. He played the second Sheriff Buford Pusser in "Walking Tall" after Joe Don Baker.
ОтветитьColdest scene of the whole series
ОтветитьFrank Castle would have been proud
ОтветитьI never understood the meaning of the actual question itself. Why the sunrise?
ОтветитьCasablumpkin.
ОтветитьMagnum made him a good Russian.
Ответить"Delaney, Did you see Regis this morning?"
ОтветитьThrusday Night, Magnum, Simon and Simon and knots Landing.
ОтветитьTerms of en rampage ment!!! BooYaCasha
