I love this movie since it came out. So timeless, one of the best sci-fi's ever made. Only the french would have envisioned such a film.

One of my favorite movies as a little kid, it's imagery is forever burned into my mind. Still holds up, and I realize how impactful it was now. I remember all of these scenes like distant dreams, because of how much I watched Fifth Element as a toddler and up. Before I could fully understand what was being said, I just watched in wonder.

Plot twist: the alien guy trapped inside is shouting the whole time, "Hey! HEYYYY!!! I gave you the key because this door only opens from the outside! I gave you the key not to be dramatic with but to LET ME OUT WITH, Captain Melodrama!!!! HURRY UP ALREADY, THIS HURTS REALLY BAD!!! My arm is a bit crushed in my armor and it really hurts but I'm fine otherwise!! LET ME OUT OF HERE ALREADY YOU JERK!!! I can hear you out there and I know you can hear me, come back here!!!" And meanwhile the rest of the Mondoshawans took off and are laughing because they called "last one back to the spaceship is getting ditched!! And he was the slowpoke, while the Priest is just a dramatic narcissist asshole. 😂

One of the most arresting, enticingly mystical opening scenes ever. The worldbuilding in this film is absolutely phenomenal. I'm not too keen on Luc Besson as a person, but he - and of course his set designers, builders, tailors, sculptors, musicians - created a potent and original work of art with "The Fifth Element".
