I'm totally confused here please help me out. You my fellow South Africans ranting and raving about Haval/GWM Cherry/OMODA/JAECOO brands right and left. But what about BYD SEALION 6 ??? BYD is the world number 1 EV car manufacturing in the world as well as one of the best PHEV car maker and we got amazing PHEV model Sealion 6 in South Africa with the price range same as your favorite Haval H6 HEV but at much better package as well as driving feel and way better cabin build. Why are you guys ignoring this brand and not giving it a chance? Would like to see your review on that vehicle. But I doubt you will do as it's simply underrated, way better the mentioned above by far..... If you will hear my pray I'm happy to see you guys educating the other fellow people South Africans about different options, better options as the rest of the world acknowledging not just me....

7 to 10 years means nothing if they won't honour it, check out all the customer complaints for Thorp, I personally had dealing with them and got screwed over.

What is going to happen when we have all these electric vehicles driving on our roads and not enough electricity to charge them (we dont even have enough electricity now)!
Nice cars though, but besides the electricity, I forsee problem w.r.t the second hand market (both trade-in & resell values will be very low, but even more so after 7 years), repair costs will be very high when things go wrong and battery replacement costs will be unaffordable to the average working class person! These cars are very bad for the environment and the climate when measured over the total life cycle!

The charger needs 6600watts for 3-5 hours that’s going to eat units off grid and solar

With Thorp giving you a 10yr/1 million km engine and drivetrain warranty you would be silly to purchase it anywhere else.

The boring RAV4 E-Hybrid - which is more expensive, smaller, slower, and is very "base line equipped" compared to the H6 (RAV4 doesn't even have a sunroof), should really be worried!

PHEV are not the answer. Essentially this is a car with 2 drivetrains. The electric power train carries an engine and the engine always carries batteries and motors. Neither can be as efficient as they can be.

Just because you drive many kilometres without pouring petrol doesn’t mean you are saving because now you have to charge the car and unfortunately electricity isn’t free… PHEVs, Hybrids in General are a scam.

Either get a full electric car or an ICE. Making one car with both doesn’t work.

Only Chinese cars get around 100km to 18okm Europen korea Europen get under 100km most at 65km i know because i left SA and live in New Zealand were everything is hev phev and electric no more standed petrol

0.8-1 litre per 100 km on the petrol engine its 5l per 100km

I’ve driven German SUVs (Toureg then Tiguan 162tsi),, loved them both,, but took one of these for a test drive last week and was blown away. Pick it up next week, same colour as the car reviewed. Great review, made me feel confident about my purchase… my biggest hurdle was going Chinese after German, but the value proposition is just so compelling and the build quality is German-esque.

This car's competitor is Omoda C9 PHEV.

As a petrolhead, I find these cars quite exciting. But what happens with the poor ICE when you've been running in EV, and then need ICE power - the ICE is still cold & now needs to deliver power.

I'm undecided between this or the BYD Sealion 6.

What happened to the GMW Tank stuck on the mad? Was it expensive to fix?
