You apparently did no research on this.
The forts are named for soldiers of importance that have the same last name.
You sound like a never served liberal.
By the way all the traitors, Democrats.

Having fought for the Confederacy does not mandatory mean having fought for slavery.

"Nod to white supremacy" or restoring traditional names having been good enough for the US government for the last hundred years...?

There should be a proper process for (re-)naming military forts, not the arbitrary act of one person.

Fact Check - it was the previous administration that renamed them.

Naming any of our nation's forts after enemies of the United States of America is inherently unsound. That said, this is no big deal. The fact is that these two forts are no longer named for Braxton Bragg and Henry Benning- and THAT is what matters.

Typical Demoicrat BS! NO...my neo-Communist friend. They WEREN'T renamed for Confederate Generals. They were renamed after AMERICAN troops who died in combat. The fact they had the same last names as those Confederate Generals is just a "coincidence".................LOVE IT WHEN A PLAN COMES TOGETHER!

Has anyome taken into consideration the amount of shit that will need ro be changed around the world for the changes to stick?
Also memory holing the fact that the government is and always has been run by a bunch of pricks isn't a good way to stop the government from being run by a bunch of pricks.
I say reinstate the original Confederate names, teach everyone the history and make Americans not trust the government again.

Naming forts for Confederate generals was part of the post-war healing process. Remember that line "With malice towards none, with charity for all." Renaming Bragg and Benning were just ways of helping the Southern whites to reintegrate with the North. I take it you disapprove and would like to see things go back the way they were during Reconstruction. KEEP THE HATE ALIVE.

I’m fairly certain that people that go to these bases don’t link the Confederate heritage to the base names, the bases themselves have an identity separate from the confederacy.

At the end of the Civil War, the focus was put on reconstruction and reconciliation. In (i think) 1953, the federal government passed laws protecting Confederate monuments as US war memorials, as a means of furthering reconciliation between Northerners and Southerners who had just fought a World War and the Korean War together.

This whole concept of trying to erase the history of half the country does nothing but drive us apart.

Enough is enough. If you dont like American history, move.

Why are you and so many others against our U.S. history, good and bad. Who gives a Rat's @$$ if these U.S. Army bases are named after Confederate Generals? I guess we should wipe out any trace of WWII because we bombed the living crap out of Japan with nuclear weapons? I guess we should wipe out any trace of the Korean War? And all the others? And did you know, Mr. O'Donnell, that President George Washington owned slaves? YES,... look it up. So are we supposed to wipe his name from history? What would you like to rename our nations capital city? People like you are the true racists.
