The Cleveland makes it’s stated power, it’s a known fact that the Ferrari engines did not produce their stated power.
ОтветитьItalian styling with a rock solid American V8. The 351 Cleveland is underated in my opinion. I think they both are beautiful. Just in different ways.
ОтветитьdeTomaso ,cheap copy of what ?of deTomaso early models don´t get it, or refering to the miura by lamborgini, in 72 ferrari released the first midle engine car but as if they only build it no ferrari but a younger brother as said the Dyno which was one of my favorite cars to drive on mountain roads, the ferrari 308 was a totally diferent car ,front in-line engine, don´t understand what is talked about here the Pantera had the problem of a very heavy engine and old technology but with the DeTomaso engeniers they made a great car . OH ! you´re from the U.S. now i understand ,not a single car in the race and wanting to get down the only car that is related with the U.S. , allthough being heavy aren´t you amazed by it´s driving ,it fast and european and comparing two diferent cars, what coments i´m hearing what?ferrari?year 72 , do you know how much nice cars were released in 1972 ,ferrari was a old fart by then, and critising the only super car that had american engine, and in the begining of the race ,sorry for using a heavy powerless super car with FORD (it sounds bad , a super car with a cheap brand engine )engine with 8 cylinders in V shape, yes i agree you don´t know nothing about nothing and you make old things not much smart people in such a big federation of country´s, then the car is good after all ,choose better titles for the videos or like this, it makes no sense. and also choose the worst time in ferrari brand not a sigle midle engine car ,Dyno wasn´t sold as a ferrari so it doesn´t count, that´s why i could buy one ,no horsey to increase the price and the pleasure of driving at the time what felt like a spaceship compared to most of other brands cars in the entire world
ОтветитьI would take a pantera over a ferari
ОтветитьI think that "somewhat indescribable" (however you said it) thing about its styling is that despite it's I-talian design, it somehow has a brutish American-like vibe going on. Like if you took an old US muscle car and rearranged it's proportions to be mid-engined....maybe.....or something. 😁
Whatever it is, it sure looks MILES better than that gruesome winged boy racer creature that came after it! It also retains much European grace in a big way. Great video! Oh, and it's not liters, or litres, it's 351 Cubic Inches, daddio!
You'd like my friends' DTP, Jack.
He mothballed the original engine and endowed it with it a 5.8 Windsor with Cleveland heads, a pair of IHI superchargers, feeding through a four-barrel TBI, and Nitrous oxide injection.
I talked him out of a second stage of nitrous, on the grounds that my chassis dyno was only rated to 1000hp.
I always preferred the look of the Pantera. The 308 looked boring when compared to it. Still both very nice cars, but the Pantera gets it, for me.
ОтветитьEarly Panteras are like early Countaches, they looked more awesome when they added the wheel arches and rear wing, it has that shock and awe factor to it, Ferrari doesnt have that even these days
Ответить308s are junk
ОтветитьCherry as is gets.
ОтветитьBetter than any Ferrari of the time with that engine. And it looks more unique. In real life, they have SO MUCH presence.
Ответить308: 87bhp/cm3
Pantera: 56bhp/cm3
308: 1260kg
Pantera: 1580kg
308: 2 seats spacy
Pantera: 2 seats limited space
I do believe the Pantera should be compared to the GT40 (engine displacement, weight, consumption, performances).
Dude it looks way better than a 308 , the 308 was a slug
ОтветитьInteresting fact for Canadians, Tim Horton died after crashing his Pantera.
ОтветитьRemember back in the early '70's CAR mag (I think it was) commenting on their test Pantera exhibiting "terminal oversteer": got the impression they'd frightened themselves somewhat....:)
I believe they weren't the only ones to make such comments - perhaps it was early development issues?
Jack you've done very well with the acquisition of this early Pantera. The car is as if not more beautiful in contemporary styling execution as any Ferrari or Lamborghini of the era. A far more practical car to own, service and modify. Well done is what I say old man!!
ОтветитьMy apologies, I'm a new subscriber and was caught up in your recent Ferrari 308 experience and decision to liquidate the Peugeot, Bentley and Ferrari. I assumed this was the new to you Pantera mentioned and was blown away by it's tasteful mods and it's performance you enjoyed. Can't wait to see you get your car from Texas and share what we all hope is a rewarding experience with it. Thank you for your reply my friend.
ОтветитьIs 27 as high as you can count?
ОтветитьHe early 70s cars look so much better. This one looks badass. Needs the factory wing.
ОтветитьA 427 SOHC would be wicked.
ОтветитьI absolutely love this version of the Pantera - Tom Tjaada is a complete genius. The unmistable sound of a 351 Cleve that exists in my Mustangs.
ОтветитьAnd now we know why you bought one!
ОтветитьBoth the Pantera and the Ferrari are beautiful cars. In different ways. The 308 has sumptuous, sexy lines, while the Pantera has a higher aggressiveness (while still having classic lines). I had the good fortune of driving a Pantera back in 1977. Handling was touchy as power was delivered to the wheels far more quickly and forcefully than I (then still a teen) was accustomed to in the mere handful of other cars I’d driven. But I didn’t wreck it, and got to take it to near 140mph. Just awesome.
ОтветитьEclipsed the Ferrari for good looks, hope your review holds up to the styling, thanks
ОтветитьIt fits all that I would like, and as you said a little ‘personalising’ may not be deemed a sin. I think it’s a beautiful looking car even today, thanks I remember these well when I was a young fella, ah if only.
ОтветитьCertainly a fine looking car. Sounds really good. Very impressive. But I'll keep my 328.
ОтветитьAnother test drive on narrow bumpy roads. This time with a supercar. I just don’t get it
ОтветитьGod, the sound of that 351. ❤
ОтветитьEach to their own. I think it looks superb, love the whole car.
Ответить"not as pretty as the 308"
Are you drunk or paid by Ferrari???
Not as beautiful as a 308!!! Are you off your rocker!!!
ОтветитьWhich one's maintenance would not bankrupt you? Which one is a lot less of a PITA?
ОтветитьFrankly, the DeTomaso just looks more muscular and predatory. The huge tires and exhaust under the back of the car, as the DeTomaso would go sailing by the Ferrari, is all the 308 driver would need to know. You weren't catching the DeTomaso anytime in the 1970's.
ОтветитьAmazing car. Great video. Your enthusiasm for this car is infectious. As for the comparison, if it were my money, I'd get a Pantera over the Ferrari any day. Cars are meant to be driven and I'd trust an old American V8 that I can replace at any time far more than I would a sensitive, highly-strung Ferrari lump.
ОтветитьJust listen to the name: DeTomaso Pantera... does it have to be more "italian" than that?
ОтветитьI love all the chrome being blacked. I know it is not origianal, but I love that look. Styling-wise, DeTomaso is like a cross between Magnum PI's car and The General Lee.
ОтветитьThat engine bay is simply gorgeous. All business, indeed.
ОтветитьI actually prefer the looks of the original car. The newer model looks like it’s trying to out Countach a Countach.
Ответить''Just 10 thousand dollars'' lmao that was a lot of money in 1971 could have bought a house!
ОтветитьGreetings from Argentina (south america), I really enjoy yours videos.
Ответитьwhat an ignorant SOB painted red & white the logo?
ОтветитьI had a 1972 in college in 1983. I beat Ferraris and Porsches all the time. No leather but all balls. The Pantera had equal performance of the Ferrari 512BB except for top speed. Ive owned both, and I like the Pantera better.
ОтветитьYou can bore and stroke a Ford 351C to 406 cu in. You can easily get 450 bhp on pump gas and aluminum heads.
ОтветитьThe soft lower end of the rev range is from the large cylinder heads. Its a trade off.
ОтветитьIf I had 1 dollar for every time an Argentinian man went to Italy and created a supercar brand, I'd have 2 dollars, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.
ОтветитьCopy? The Pantera predates the 308 and the BB by years.
ОтветитьI remember when the Mangusta and then this car came out. I prefer the looks of the Mangusta and much prefer the looks of this early car instead of the later, bloated one.
ОтветитьThe Alfa taillights used on the Pantstearer might have been ok in 1971, but they just look like what they are…. Parts bin recycling. Such a good looking backend that could look better.
ОтветитьMaserati Bora 4.9 (or was it the 4.7 liters? I forgot) : you ain’t slaying me! 🗿
(Jk love both cars)
Fr tho seems that the Bora with that engine was faster than the Pantera.
I dunno what I would do to have both 🤦♂️, imagine, a collection of beauties from the 60s,70s and 80s
I would go even further but still, it would be amazing even just of that era.
