The original XJ Cherokee was arguably the vehicle that kicked off the SUV craze and was so good that it had a nearly twenty year production run… and everything that has either replaced it and/or borne the Cherokee badge since has been a huge letdown. Get back to your roots, Jeep.

An elderly couple that I waited on regularly offered me a fully loaded 1989 Cherokee Laredo that they had bought new (but with a stick) for $2000 in 2004 when I was 21 years old… it had about 60k miles on it and was like new. I simply did not have the money to buy it at the time, and I wince every time I think back on it because it was an absolute steal at that price and I would still own it today had I bought it. These new “Cherokees” are not deserving of the name.

Can’t wait to see what a disaster this Cherokee turns out to be. Currently without my KL Cherokee trailhawk for the past 7 months, because Jeep failed to acknowledge the faulty PTUs they put in them until it became a safety recall.

Just by looks: too low, terrible approach angle, no hooks… Seems like a rebranded Compass Trailhawk.

The previous Cherokee had the same 2L Hurricane as the Wrangler with a transmission out of a Compass. Same engine is currently in the 4xe. Idk why they wouldn’t repeat that pattern. 4xe engine mated to the current 8 speed Hyundai transmission from the Compass.
