Great video Andrew. This style of antenna has always interested me, especially when you talk about how important it is to have the dielectric to keep it from shorting competely. I would be very interested to see some videos talking about the theory behind how antennas really work and why/when an antenna can be shorted. Although I'm not sure if you're average viewer would care to drive that deep. Either way, hope you're doing well.
ОтветитьThank you I was waiting this review
ОтветитьI really appreciate your tear-down and bench test of every antenna! So glad you aren't afraid to feature MIMO LTE. I do wish in a separate video you would connect several to a tower and compare signal quality. The signal to noise ratio is just as important as gain for a good download transmission speed. I find patch panel antennas to be too noisy in a city environment.
ОтветитьNice antenna. The cellular ones we pronounce "cat-reine" as in the river. Some say kath- rather than cat-. Anyways one good reason for the 5g only is using the high gain narrow beamwidth design would be to ensure coverage from a 5g site with a unlimited data plan, for a broadband router. Although I agree makes sense at mo to have a 4g5g one at least 1.8gig lte band1,3 too.
ОтветитьGiven most 5G n78 (3.3-3.8GHz) still run as NSA (non-standalone) and require a LTE anchor band to function it is good to see a mid band response. Wonder how that translates to mid band gain
ОтветитьBuddy, you are pointing the feedhorn in the wrong direction when testing. Adding holes in element could just be to increase 3dimensional surface area to excite the element with passing radio waves. This might work as replacement for my old 2.4hgz 24dbi parabolic dish to update to 5ghz
Ответитьi would love a teradown and an analisys of the more broad band version. there's any chance to get the kathrein antenna dimensions? newly discovered channel and im already loving the contents
ОтветитьThx for sharing 😊
ОтветитьDoes it work on 4G ?
Ответитьinteresting.. so, those lower freq 1.8 - 2.1 would fall in for band 2 and 4 ?
ОтветитьI wonder if the focal length of the dish is related to the wavelength to get a whole number of half wavelengths between the transmitter and the dish?
ОтветитьHi Andrew, I'm a bit confused about the second parabolic reflector. The signal from the main parabolic reflector arrives from different angles (like a cone). So the shape of the second parabolic reflector must be different than the main parabolic reflector or the distance between the reflector and the element must be different. Is that right? Thanks for your explanation and I look forward to your next video.
ОтветитьGood job sir ...
ОтветитьThank you so much Andrew mcneil
ОтветитьThank you very much !
I was waiting for this kind of tear down for long time . Finally i could see whats inside .
Maybe can we make biquad element this way ??
When i put a secondary parabolic reflector i should find a parabolic reflector with 1/8 λ focal point length ??
Thank you again
I don't know but I've always love dishes and loops. Very cool!
ОтветитьThanks Andrew,i eagerly waiting for this video since you tease the pic in the group.
ОтветитьNice to see a good antenna for one.
This one in particular seems to blend the border between the consumer and professional antennas somewhat.
I like how the white casing of the feed looks like they just got a PVC fitting from the hardware store.
I dind't expect to see an element like on the Kathrein antennas, I think this is the first time I saw one of those on a somewhat cheap antenna.
I would be very interested in a small series where you try out the effect of the holes in such an element.
Maybe make one without holes from brass and then drill some round holes and measure again.
This implementation of the element kind of has a dual bowtie antenna look to it.
(of course it isn't one but it kind of looks like one)
Greetings,
Michael
very nice design too , bet they expensive tho ?
ОтветитьWill it cook a 4kg Turkey in under 90 minutes though??? lolz 5G, grab your sunscreen!
ОтветитьThank you 🙏
ОтветитьRespected sir,
It a great video yet again. I fall in that category which you discribed at the end where 5g is years away and we want broad frequency range 4g 3g antenna. Dishes are dirt cheap here ...can you please recommend any decent antenna in that 70 pound range with a feed and dish setup (price without dish)
thank you very much sir
Can you show a video on how to make microstrip
antennas for beginners
Thank for brief explanation of this antenna. I'm using it but earlier version (V1). I get a lot of improvement by using this feedhorn.
Ответитьthank you
Ответитьhi sir..the material used is iron or steel can i try cooper
From malaysia❤️
I have kathrein for grid, planning to give it front reflector. But how to measure distance of front reflector to main element(kathrein)?
ОтветитьThank you for your video-contents sir. This is where I base my product reviews as an electronics engr.
ОтветитьWhat is the connector name? Mine got broken and the first part is n female but the connector name I could not find
ОтветитьThanks for the effort on putting this video, these antennas recently had an update, wonder if you could do something similar with the new version, it´ll be amazing
ОтветитьAmazing how much difference a dish makes.
ОтветитьHello, I really like your videos! I'm new to Antennas and am setting up a Mobile WiFi internet, and an antenna array for WiFi access for our community.
Can you tell me from where do you get the parabolic dishes? Are these standard from some use? Can they be purchase used or from surplus? How are the folding mesh type parabolic dishes one can get from eBay for $50? Thank you!
How about a 915Mhz 24db Super Long Range Dish Feed Antenna???
Ответитьthanks to your video i am not thinking about building this :) found the feeder on aliexpress, also a newer 45 degree angled version but i have no clue how to think about the dish. TV dishes are actually very accessible on used market, won't that just eqally do than a new grid dish?
ОтветитьHi Andrew, where did you get the dish from? Thanks.
ОтветитьHi sir, I wanna ask what happens if I tilt 45° of tht antenna using parabolic grid? Is it performance will drop or greater because I once watched someone explained to tilt 45° of dual polarization feedhorn for better reception. Please reply sir I wanna know bout it
ОтветитьI have those kathrein antenna in hand, was about to purchase this. glad you tear it doen. since the inside is the same as kathrein. I can design my own antenna with the one I have now. the only option for the reflector for me is cooking wok and an offset dish parabola since they are cheapee than proper antenna dish. the second reflector is interesting find.
ОтветитьThank you for the video, it's very helpful for my place, if anyone is confused about making a reflector, you can use an old fryer and it's cheap and works ❤❤❤
And why you not make video again
My mast is in direct line of sight between 3000 to 4000 meters. What antenna would u recommend for network 3 UK on 5g thanks
Ответитьhet Andrew thanks for the video, what antenna do you recommend? I'm looking for my modem, only focused on 3500mhz or n78 band ? thank you
ОтветитьI don't want to be wrong but they are two crossed dipoles with cross polarized. What is the German company?
ОтветитьPlease, where did you by it from? Cannot find one with Kathrein module inside, most of them have PCB.
ОтветитьSupport tower 🗼 8km or not?
Ответить
