I also forgot to mention one other detail that made the Allan Quatermain books special. H. Rider Haggar depicted the native Africans with respect and dignity. One of the main characters of his book, Umslopogaas, was a strong, cunning, and noble African warrior. The author's depiction of his native characters are a far cry to others of his time.
