If you think of it Philippines is split in half between US & China. Southern Philippines favor China since they are a muslim influenced part of the country. The nothern Philippines leans toward US since it is mostly influenced by Christianity and the west. China hopes to gain the southern Philippines with the help of Rodrigo Duterte's influence in Davao & southern Philippines. Moreover, Rodrigo Duterte has a human rights violation & mass killing investigation by the ICC which is even driving him to favor China over US.

In the 1970s Taiwan biggest $ earnings were the suger cane! That's the reason for the yanks to close their ambassy in Taipei and moved to the mainland China. Yeah more money more honey!
