Murray sounds like such an insufferable dick. For one thing, he's apparently the reason why Lorenzo Music was replaced as Peter Venkman on The Real Ghostbusters, which is unforgivable.

I'm a big Bill Murray fan, but the more i read about his behavior, it sounds less eccentric and more self-centered. The whole "not knowing if he's making a movie until the day filming starts" things is wildly selfish

...I dunno, at least we still got The Real Ghostbusters Seasons 1 and 2 (plus Season 3 onwards eps like "The Grundel") and Extreme Ghostbusters. They're worthy enough sequels, and far better than Ghostbusters 2... and maybe even the Afterlife duology in some ways.

Also, there's the 2009 video game, although which port is better is another can of worms.

Anyways, would like to see a similar vid like this, but about George Lucas' creative control on Star Wars overshadowing his later ex-wife Marcia's and also co-creators like Irvin Kershner, which woefully led to the flawed Prequels (and yes, this should be with the far superior Legends Expanded Universe and the Elseworlds-ish The Clone Wars 2008 in mind) and perhaps even the Sequels.

Ever since I first saw CARRY ON SERGEANT (1958), I've felt that STRIPES was an American remake of it, with Warren Oates in the William Hartnell role as the retiring drill sergeant stuck with a crew of misfit recruits. This would not be the only time Ivan Reitman would do this! Several people have told me Reitman's DAVE is very similar to LELICEK IN THE SERVICES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES (1932). This made perfect sense, when I learned Reitman was BORN in The Czech Republic, so he almost had to be aware of the CZECH film when growing up. Both involve a lookalike taking over for the head of a small country, who proves more competent at the job than the people they're replacing. (LELICEK is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen-- and it's in Czech with English subtitles!)

I keep thinking it would be cool to watch these films as a pair of double-features.

If I remember right, it was Bill Murray's older brother Brian Doyle Murray, who also had a long-time working relationship with Ramis, for Bill to go see his friend before he passed away. And I ALSO think that's why Bill played Dr. Peter Venkman in the last two "Ghostbusters" movies. In "Afterlife" it was a way for Bill to pay his respects to Harold Ramis. And "Frozen Empire" for Bill to pay his respects to Ivan Reitman. Because it was BOTH Harold and Ivan who worked on Bill's first movie "Meatballs."

It seems like Murray wanted to be a serious actor more than a comedic one. But since he was only really known as a comedian that's all anyone wanted to see him do, so it might have made him kind of bitter I think. It could explain why he was so cranky and would never fully commit to some of these comedy movies he would get cast in. It's like he was hoping a more serious dramatic role would come along in the meantime and he didn't want to already be committed to another movie. It's like being Jackie Chan. No one really wants to see him do drama, they only want to see him in martial arts roles.

I really enjoyed learning more about Ramis' and Murray's relationship, was happy to hear they made up in the (or before the) end, but was most of all excited and amazed to find out there's a movie from my childhood that I missed and can go back watch for the first time. Thanks!

Why did this happen? Bill Murray is friends with a guy who has a daughter, but the daughter isn't his. It's Harold Ramis. This is what broke down their relationship. Ramis getting a woman pregnant, have a daughter with her, but that daughter thinking that woman's husband was actually her dad.
