bro i love mcr so much I rememebr in 8th grade i religiously only listened to it and every video I watched was about them. I literally learned so much random informatino about the band for no reaseon, like how gerard cut his balls open trying to shave them on tour bc they smelled bad

Also Scream album literally saved a teen me too many times to count from calling it the ultimate quits and I could never be more grateful for that❤

Cinema Bizzare and Tokio Hotel both were so sadly underrated for how incredible their music was. I still love to jam to both

Came here after seeing your "Music on Myspace" video that included BVB, Paramore et al. Shout out to you for being one of the few men who love Tokio Hotel lol! I'm an American Tokio Hotel fan and have been since 2008. I got to see them when they performed in the US in 2014. Tokio Hotel are my heart band and it was wonderful to see them explained by a person who loves them just as much. If you ever wanted to make more Tokio Hotel videos, I would love to see them!

As someone listening to this music in 2008-2009, there were a couple people at my school who knew who Tokio Hotel and Cinema Bizarre (and Dir en Grey) were, but you were definitely labeled as the "cool, more hardcore Goth girl" at the time.

I think the big reason that the small but devoted American Tokio Hotel fan base dwindled is because they didn't tour their "Humanoid" album in the US. I waited for so long to see them and they never came. Their music has always, and especially Humanoid and Kings of Suburbia, were between genres, so they could never be easily lumped in with another band or attached to another band's tour. Their uniqueness hurt them there.

And yes I did learn German for them :P

The bands I could think of that come closest to Tokio Hotel are Empire of the Sun (from Australia) who also are in between genres, and Depeche Mode, who once I started listening to their music as an adult I saw where so much of Tokio Hotel's inspiration came from.

they were kinda hated and made fun of over here in Germany (many because of the look of Bill). Of course they were also pushed by the BRAVO magazine. But yeah most comedy guys made fun of them, most teen boys hated them (because... yeah don't know really). For me: well iw as 16 when they got big so i was listening to Linkin Park more (and NIghtwish) so it wasn't directly my cup of tea but i found it impressive that they were succesful with German songs outside of the german speaking countries in the EU with songs in GERMAN (in France for example the german Album was way more successful than the english one and according to the news it also kinda increased the interest in learning german as a foreign language) and some songs actually were kinda cool.
Cinema Bizare ... i have the first album mainly because they were also into anime and so i kinda found them through that (i rarely listened to visual kei bands but i kinda like some japanese bands) but they sadly didn't hit THAT big sadly. Yeah they were marketed as "Tokyo Hotel 2" which angered the TH fans (and they didn't make Pop Rock and more New Wave and 80s inspired music) and they kinda got hate from the hardcore Manga/Anime Otakus which saw them as "try hard Visual Kei Band" and kept listending to X Japan, Mos di mois and so on
i kinda loved the deep voice of Luminor btw.

Last year or maybe even 2 ago i got curious and looked up the ticket prices for the next Tokyo Hotel concerts, and was shocked how much they cost just for semi small venues here in Germany they wanted (if i remember correctly) 600 to 700 Euro (around 650-750 USD)
And this was around the time Bill and heidi Klum have started to promote their drag race rip off show on a German streaming service and no one have heard of Tokyo Hotel in years besides Tom Dating and later married (the 16 years older) Heidi Klum

I still get goosebumps when I hear all of their songs, these bands were THE ULTIMATE VIBE 😭🥹 what a time to be alive, they made my whole childhood/ teenage years 😭🔥

I mean TOKIO hotel has a whole Netflix show now about them. Mcr still plays sold out tours etc

I've always loved MCR. And well Tokio Hotel was really popular in my country but because my cousin was a big fan of the band, I couldn't like it (my cousin had this weird thought that I was copying all the stuff she liked and she wouldn't let me like stuff she liked because of that)
