Mr Widemouth was the first creepypasta I ever sat down and read and not just heard from someone else and for that reason it has a special place in my heart. The downside is that I think its like a top tier creepypasta and most things I read afterwards felt meh.

i feel like the crawlspace could be a bit better with just one difference. the friends don’t believe her because the entity has attached itself to the main character and vanishes around the others, leading the main character to believe she’s crazy until the final part where the friends go missing one by one staring with her roommate

I wonder where the description of a Wendigo having a deer-like head originally came from, as I believe the original look of a Wendigo was something similar to the ones we see in the game Until Dawn. A gaunt human, with pale white skin, and long spider-like limbs.

Fun fact: The appearance of the Wendigo is often inaccurate. The few pieces of media that has an accurate appearance is Until Dawn and Fallout 76.

I genuinely despise modern version of wendigo tbh, it has very little to do with the Algonquian beliefs and from a genuine horrifying thing it turned to generic zombie deerman with elements of skin walkers shoved in for some reason

In terms of Crawlspace, I'd wager that if the narrator did show her roommates the photo, they didn't believe her bc it could easily be brushed off as pareidolia on her part.

I don’t remember where I read it, but someone posted something about how Mr. Widemouth was actually, genuinely looking for friends, but his entire race was basically dead, and he really wasn’t trying to be malicious, rather, all the “dangerous” stuff was just normal for said race. Obviously a theory full of holes but I thought it was pretty goofy/sad.
