Hey Rowan, who's this Cambridge reject on your channel?
ОтветитьMy friend was a fellow of mathematics there. One afternoon he took us punting on the cam with champagne and strawberries. I decided to have a go punting after several glasses. I fell in and lost my prescription sunglasses and killed my phone. Was terribly embarrassing walking back dripping with everyone giggling at me. It’s very cold the water. I have no business punting.
ОтветитьI was born in the sixties so loved the seventies and the eighties 😊
ОтветитьYou certainly get around, Marek. Another exceptionally good video. Thank you.
I got the 'cows belly' question right. I knew the answer wasn't one of the UDDER ones.
I'm happy to have grown up in the 1950's. My father was a jazz musician, so grew up listening to all the old greats. When I was at school, a friend mentioned Elvis Presley - I said, "Who?"
I used to work at a place that proudly boasted of having THE NEWTON'S APPLE TREE in its grounds which is how I discovered there were actually a bunch of them all around the country. What a swizz!
ОтветитьSecond time I saw you today Mr Marek. First time was with Mr Spicer. Oscar winning performance as always. 🙂
ОтветитьTeen in the late 70's early 80's and I loved it.
ОтветитьGreat video as always. Correction... "Although there are a few establishing exterior shots of Cambridge University, sensitivity to the story’s accusations of anti-Semitism caused Caius College (pronounced ‘Keys College’), Cambridge, the alma mater of runner Harold Abrahams (Ben Cross), to refuse permission to film on its property, and Eton College, north of Windsor, Berkshire, stands in."
ОтветитьTeen in the 80s. The music was great (I write about it in Blitzed Magazine). I enjoyed the 80s... and 90s! But perhaps the or 50s and 60s would be great to visit... or, alternatively 3500bc or so.
ОтветитьHey my home town! I love St John’s and take every opportunity to visit if there is an exhibition or event on. The old library at St John’s dates back to 1600s and is well worth a visit.
ОтветитьI went punting and the guide didn’t appreciate my question as to how many times he had twated his head on the bridges. The sarcastic response was that they hadn’t due to their understanding of the distance between the punt and head. It was probably because I couldn’t remember the name of Sir Christopher Wren who managed to get a few jobs in the area apparently. Think they thought I was pretending to know who he was but everyone knows he designed St Paul’s in London.
ОтветитьWhat a beautiful place, why is it called the bridge of sighs? The sound of students off to exams? As for decades I loved the 80’s, loved the 90’s and being a teenager through the britpop years but I’d love to have experienced the art deco 30’s and seen the 40’s and experienced the world the way my now 92 year old nana did 😊
ОтветитьThe '80's, as I did - god, the excess! We fit a whole century into 10 years!
ОтветитьBorn 1971. It was about perfect timing, music wise.
ОтветитьI don’t think Shakespeare mentions ferries once, not even in the tempest, what a twat, well done for not going to Cambridge
ОтветитьAnother cool video......cool dude. 👍
Ответить"Do you think Shakespeare believed in fairies" sounds like the phrase you say to wake a sleeper agent
I feel like I did ok growing up in the 80's and 90's, although i would've loved to have been old enough to have attended in person a QUEEN show with Freddie 🤘🏻
I'm very happy to have done most of my growing up in the 70s and my teens in the early 80s. In particular I appreciate the ability to have worn flares unironically.
Ответитьi was born in '74, but would have liked to have been born earlier so I could have witnessed the 70s punk scene.
ОтветитьBorn 60's , teen 70's, I liked lots of music produced then and lots produced since . I prefer stuff made today. I believe Shakespeare believed in what ever suited his purposes .
ОтветитьI think maybe 70s. I was a teen in the 90s, so not too far out but I mean I bought the New Kids on the Block albums on tape and thought it was good when I could have been buying much much better music.
ОтветитьBorn 1960 - very happy to have everything good from the 70s (shame about Thatcher)
ОтветитьHow can some supposedly great bookshop be selling books that long and not have the Spotters Handbook in the window? Talk about a rubbish shop!
ОтветитьTeen in the '80s-'90s. Can't help wondering if '70-'80s would have been better. Maybe just a "grass is always greener" thing.
Love hearing about mad interviews like the one you mention. Years ago, I went for a job on an obscure web-search engine. The interviewer mainly shared his conspiracy theories regarding the Middle East. Didn't really describe the position or tell me why I had/hadn't gotten it. I left bewildered. (On reflection, I suspect it was already gone and he was just filling in the time.)
Chariots of fire set the scene in the courtyard for dramatic effect but the four minute mile actually happened at the universities sports field.
ОтветитьAnother great video!
ОтветитьNice One Cool Dude👌👍👍👍
ОтветитьCambridge = cycling capital of the UK. Academia heaven = Oxford, Cambridge & not forgetting The University of Southampton & Portsmouth among others, (have to mention latter 2 as sons attended!) Another great walk with interesting info & what a lovely elegant dress the lady was wearing at 4.55.
ОтветитьI’m a porter
ОтветитьNice one cool dude! I am a reject of Corpus Christi in 1996 (my dad had studied there) although I was put into the pool for the other colleges to consider, but I was not selected from that so was effectively rejected for a second time! I applied for Natural Sciences, but my interview was entirely about physics, by far my weakest subject, and I floundered... I may have preferred to have been a teen in the 80's, but the 90's was ok. Stay cool
ОтветитьApparently Tim Keys was a member of the floodlights society but not at Cambridge, he lasted until they found out he wasn't enrolled at the university
ОтветитьOur home city! Do go up the tower of Great St Mary's. Cracking views!
ОтветитьIf you are on one of those river vehicles are you a punter or a puntee? Or just a lucky punt.
ОтветитьWhen Hannah worked there we lived in West Cambridge and the quickest way to walk into town was through John's. The back gate used to be unlocked so we got in for free. But now they lock it, bah! I agree about visiting one college. The prices are just too high for what they are. Obviously they're great, but there's not enough variety to justify dropping 50 quid.
ОтветитьGreat video. I was inspired to compose a limerick about a young man in a punt.......
