Thanks Don your videos and wisdom are awesome. What is the advantage a baby nuc versus a full size nuc?

Don't really understand why the roof on it isn't on all the sides of the hive like the one used on the normal size hives.

Hi Don. i totally understand the mini mating nuc concept but, could u tell me what the benefits are with it versus a deep hive body separated into four colony spaces with dividers ? i know alot of queen breeders use the mini nucs. i just dont see the benefit in them due to the frames not being standard size. i have some divided deeps and i simply take the frames (when the queen is laying well) and put them into a nuc and add the 3 more frames. one undrawn, one pollen and one feed. just would like to know if im missing a benefit i should think about before i build some mini nucs while i grow my operation here. ur videos always are great education my friend. Blessings. :)

I noticed you only put 4 frames in but there seems to be enough room for 5.  does it matter? Thanks for all your videos  they r my favorites. I did donate earlier

Finally, someone with the measurements.  My mentor gave me one of these to use as a template.  They are similar but mine has a feed reservoir inside.  any comments to that idea of the inside feeder?

Just one question for you Fat Bee Man.
Did you make it out of scrap?

To get the mini frames drawn out fast, you can put a divider in a full sized box, and put two mini frames in end to end. These small nucs allow you to stretch your resources much farther, thereby building up your hive count faster. 1 cup of bees to raise a queen is pretty smart business, in my book.

Can you use baby nuc as a swarm trap?

What is the advantage of this over a 4 way (4 chambers, 4 colonies) mating nuc? I'm referring to what Mike Palmer uses.

I think when Don says he makes the mini nucs out of scrap he means off-cuts. Pieces that otherwise might be thrown out since they are too small to be of much use after making a large project or full size boxes. Nice design Don! I like how you keep things simple. I actually might try raising a queen now. The guys at our bee club made queen raising sound something akin to building a space shuttle.

Don, I'm trying to find a video of yours showing how to build a Nuc box . I see you have videos on mini Nuc boxes that I've watched. I'm totally new to bees and really wanting to start. I love your natural set-up with your Nuc boxes in other videos and I'd like to replicate that on a smaller scale. Also do you recommend any special tools for making frames and nucs? Thanks for your knowledge and videos!

Wouldn't it be easier to make a two-frame nuc? Then you could use a standard frame. You could take a frame of honey or empty comb and put it in the two-frame nuc.
