Promonade.sg – a Social Enterprise for HBB and Small Businesses

Promonade.sg is a social enterprise that created an e-commerce for local home based and small businesses to promote their brand and product on our virtual fair.

During the circuit breaker period, many home based and small businesses were greatly affected. Some had to wind down to stop more financial losses. And some are struggling to keep businesses afloat. Upon reaching out to these businesses and reading from news that CNY fairs or bazars at Chinatown and malls will be cancelled due to the pandemic, Promonade.sg decided to create a non-profit e-commerce platform for these businesses to have another sales channel to increase their revenue during festive seasons.

The concept of a virtual fair came about from online events such as exhibitions that were already made popular in the event industry. Our teammates are from various races and experiences. From digital marketing experts to website builders and designers, we have created Promenade.sg 1st Chinese New Year Virtual Fair from scratch.

We aim to assist home based businesses and Chinatown small businesses such as Singapore traditional brand HuZhenLong bakwa to promote their brand and sales digitally. We are also working with ex-convicts and job seekers by hiring them to support our backend administration work as well as delivery.

Consumers are able to purchase all their favourite CNY goodies from Promonade.sg and pay a one-time flat $15 island delivery fee. Our virtual booths include products such as bakwa, seafood, pineapple tarts, cakes, hampers, flowers, fresh fruits and apparels.

As our main sponsor of the event, Fishop Marketplace, is also supplying fresh seafood to our home based businesses at lower than market rate to support them and create sustainability to their businesses.

Promonade.sg will continue to create virtual events throughout the year for our home based and small businesses to continue their sales online. In May, we will run our Mother’s Day and Hari Raya Festival promotion to keep the platform sustainable. And as a social enterprise we will also continue to support social causes such as donate partial sales to Foreign Workers on Labour Day, work with single mother for Mother’s Day and so on.
