ОтветитьBy the way, older boats with Flybridge did have mechanicle controls with an "Differentialschaltung" and some times werry long control cables
ОтветитьSorry but electronic controll for the engine ist big bullsh.. on a sailboat. With all the evc-bullsh.. ther ara so many problems that must be solved by specialists with the right software on a laptop. For a sailboat no comonrail diesel and no turbocharger. May be al bit more of fuel consumption and les power, but more safety. That is my opinion based of some experience with VOLVO-EVC.

ОтветитьYou've got some interesting historical information in this episode. My mother's side is 100% Dutch which makes me 50% Dutch, or Netherlandian. My Dutch ancestors came over in the mid 1800s so they wouldn't have been involved in WW2 . It's also nice to know that that decommissioned Dutch ship will be going on to serve in Ukraine's Navy!

What might make a really interesting video is the entire list of fixes, upgrades, etc.... and all the repairs during and after your first long crossing. (I could make a list of all the 'stuff' any boat should have to do a crossing. The owners I sailed with last year asked me to bring a bunch of spares and things to Vietnam. All the other stuff I brought they asked, "What's this for?" We used all of it. We could've used all the stuff I considered taking. Except for my tether I used none of the safety gear I brought. I'd bring it all again. My PFD was only used to attach the tether to. )
I sailed for three months last year on their brand new Seawind catamaran. Half way across the Pacific the owner commented that the 'wear and tear' of the crossing, 7500 nM total to Victoria, would probably reduce the value of the boat $50k. Seemed reasonable at the time.
But two things. First the hull and structure of that boat are incredibly strong. I'd made a whole list of things to keep an eye on to judge how much the structure might loosen up. Nothing moved. Across the whole bridge deck not 0.1 mm. No squeaks.
Second, all the things we fixed, complained about, etc... and all the upgrades done in a boatyard on Vancouver Island about $25k. If I was going to buy one of those boats I wouldn't hesitate to pay $100k more for that boat over a brand new one.
I don't want to sell my 20 year old boat because of all the amazing upgrades the first owner put in. How many people would buy a folding helm wheel for $1000US? What about a Hydrovane? (Installed on my boat at least $10k) And because I know where everything is and how to fix it. I consider it to be a permanent boat. Even if I lost the rig, blew up the engine and replacing these would cost more than buy even a new boat, it would absolutely be better to pay more to fix these things.
What I've decided is new boats are great, but there better be a really good reason to buy a new boat. It's not the money, it's getting any new boat to fully function. Of course working with a great yard to build a custom boat is a really good reason. (My win the lotto fantasy is I work with them to make a 60' aluminum performance cat.)
Short of this, the buying points for me are: Used, No wood core hull, solid fiberglass or aluminum; good bulkheads, and probably at least 10 years old - but not 30. This is for eye pleasing woodwork below, and no teak on top. (Either side of this 'window' is Ikea or endless wood refinishing.) Just my musings.
Such beautiful ship, just wondering if the anchor chain might inadvertently transport water into the nice front locker?

ОтветитьYou definitely want to put a protective bracket around that engine throttle. I’ve also had it free first, also electronic and especially because it has no resistance like a cable operated one, means you can easily move it involuntarily by walking / falling into it.

ОтветитьWestern propaganda has hidden the deaths of Russian-speaking people in the Donbass and their rejection of the US-installed leader via a coup in 2014. To be more balanced it would be good to talk about Russian losses in WWII, recently declassified documents indicate about 40 million died, and maybe talk about how Ukraine mined the Black Sea a few years ago..terrorism it seems.

I am from India , a 22 year old young and has nothing to do with western and European people and whenever I see videos of illegal immigrants , WOKE people disrespecting WW 2 veterans and local cultures I feel sad , I don’t know why . I huge admirer of Paris and its architecture due to old movies and web series but recently I watched illegal immigrants are all over Paris and radical Islamists doing all sorts of thing near “Eiffel tower” is just sad . ОтветитьComplicated drive systems on a sailing vessel is a mistake. In service at sea repairs are next to impossible. A nearby lighting strike can disable or reprogram controls instantly. Custom software and multiple systems to do the same task such as hybrid drives are a mistake. They typically require supporting vessels and parts as well as software engineers available to rebuild the code or reloadthe code, SSDs, graphic units of differeing types. Going to the Arctic, dictates simplicity and reliability, not advanced technology that gets in the way and creates risk.

Only at the cost of the death of 19 million people, citizens of the USSR, was Nazi Germany defeated and the countries of Europe liberated. Otherwise, Europe would still be under Nazi occupation, you would be slaves of Germany. In the video, Holland celebrates the day of liberation from the occupation of the country. Naturally, no one remembers the sacrifice of 19 million people of the USSR, thanks to whom you are free. History is a vile thing. Political correctness has won over gratitude!
