Smartphone pictures pose privacy risks

A threatening person can do all of this by following someone around and stalking them. If someone really wants to do harm they will find a way. This is not as big a deal as people are making it out to be.

Hoax!  Welcome to the wonderful world of the internet!  Anyone who has any information or pictures posted anywhere on the web, whether pictures were taken by mobile phone, digital camera or even scanned from original pictures, has the same chance of being tracked by anyone with even a little bit of IT savvy.
If you ever gave your mobile number or e-mail address to anyone, you share the same risk!  LOL :)

Not new though, phones have been recording GPS locations on photos since phones first had GPS capabilities. It's very easy to turn this off though in the camera app settings.

Moral of the story is, if you want to keep your kids private, don't upload photos of them publicly in the first place :-)

Oh no, what if someone sees your kid in the street, store or school and follows them home? They will know where they live! This is nothing new. Stop getting all dramatic about it.

Turning geo tagging off will be in your camera app's settings and is very straightforward to turn off. You do not need to turn off your phones GPS system

I find it hilarious that they call them hackers. If the photo was shared publicly, that data may have been shared too. Inspecting that data and then looking it up on Google Maps isn't unauthorised therefore isn't hacking. Who am I kidding, the media don't care about the definition, they're just using the word to spread panic.

Geotagging is an option you can turn off... look at that, national security threat NARROWLY AVERTED! If you didn't know about this, you silly.

Look at the date on this!  It is more than 3 years old!  Facebook and Twitter strip all EXIF data from photos.

that's not true, because then it will go by the internet tower you are connected to's GPS location, or IP Address, which, while not as accurate, can still give you line of sight of the person. try it in Google Maps with GPS off and see...

Fine for all you who are computer savvy to make comments like "how stupid you are if you did not know" etc. Please remember thousands of us were not raised with google, computers & modern technology. Take all your mod cons away from you and see how difficult your life would become! Yet we would have no idea as to why you would be suffering as we have lived this way.
Stop judging people! Have some patience & compassion, believe it or not, one day you will be left behind also as children of today growing with have even more modern advances than you that are the norm in their lives!

Smart instruments or appliances pose a threat to all. If it is SMART, you don't nered it no matter how much you like the perks.

why are they telling us about this? What are we going to be able to do about the many government contracts involved in making these GPS tracking devices and their implementation into our telephones? sometimes all it takes to pacify a people is to scare them into complacency. Eventually people get tired of being scared and they start ignoring everything that triggers that response. news stations are definitely not helping their part of the problem now. The only reliable sources of news happen to be online and it's no wonder that online freedoms are still being attacked covertly. and none of that matters to me because my life does not revolve around the day today I have a hope that I look forward to every single moment that I think about it. no one can take it from me because they didn't give it to me. all the important things in life have nothing to do with making yourself comfortable here on Earth. it has everything to do with God's kingdom coming. his will be done on Earth as it is already done in heaven. when you're not living for this life there is so much more to life. I don't know how it sounds too every person who's reading this right now but I can tell you it's very real, he's very real and he wants you. His is a love that cannot be defeated. He is who judges rightly and will restore your soul (mind, heart, etc).

It's called latitude and longitude, and for some reason Apple includes it in the photo files by default.

I just learned about the location option on FB tonight, Nov. 24, 2017. I put a comment on a general video where people were putting their city and state.. I said I didn’t feel comfortable putting where I lived for everyone to see. Someone told me that could see anyway because my location was on. I found this to be alarming and had to use my iPad and android cellphone to turn those features off. For anyone not believing this video, think again.
