Even if this guy wouldn't have gotten in anyway, racial quotas are f*cked up.
ОтветитьTime to kick this garbage precedent in the trash along with roe vs wade even with the affirmative action hire to the highest court this year, who won't even remove herself from the case
ОтветитьThe thing is bakke isn't wrong and if you have any empathy you can at least understand where he is coming from. You worked hard and just barely scored enough and people who don't even score as high as you get in just because they are of a qualified race and literally the equal protection clause says you can't do that.
I disagree with identity politics including affirmative action. My general viewpoint is if the action is wrong then it's wrong like police brutality. Why do people feel the need to talk about how it effects minorities more it's irrelevant because it shouldn't happen to anyone.
As far as affirmative action is concerned the most qualified people should be given the opportunities. The problem with identity politics is that they rely on historic discrimination against groups of people rather than present discrimination and that they often leave out groups that were historically discriminated against mainly Italians, Irish, and Jewish peoples. This is a further issue of the social concept known as race which groups people into extremely vague categories and waters them down.
If we are to enforce any type of affirmative action it should be based on income and be for industries that we need. Did you know that we need doctors and pilots yet there is no federally funded program for doctors or pilots and these programs are extremely expensive. It takes nearly six figures to get your commercial pilots license and even more for doctors.
Jesus loves you ❤️
ОтветитьWho is after after the Supreme Court is arguing affirmative action
ОтветитьHmmm. This is a tough one.
Ответить"postive discrimination" "social justice" "hate speech" whenever they put a qualifier in front of something that is good on its own, run
ОтветитьGiven this might be overturned soon this video might need to be updated
ОтветитьRacism against whites is still racism
ОтветитьInterestingly enough there were groups that tried to change the law in California to REVOKE the ban on Affirmative Action in college admittances. The proposition failed with a 10% margin. In particular most of the Asian-American community saw it as a law that sacrificed them to the benefit of other POC groups.
ОтветитьI believe that affirmative action and even quotes should be allowed in universities, on corporate and bank boards, and even among the regents of university boards at least up to the year 2500, simply due to the fact that people of white ancestry have historically always been given in this country favoritism, nepotism and preference in universities, jobs, promotions, corporate CEO positions, bank official positions, housing, etc. over blacks or any other minority group. Yes, this is called reverse discrimination, but it is needed in our society for at least the next 350 years as to create a level playing field and more diversify throughout the society. There needs to be more black doctors, engineers, lawyers, judges, professors, CEOs, bankers, astronauts, pilots, etc. throughout this United States society. I am frankly tried of only seeing successful blacks in entertainment, or in sports like football and basketball when the chances of becoming very successful in these fields are 1 in a million.
Ответитьl am fanatically opposed to any discrimination on basis of skin color, ethnic group, geographic origin, or religion. This very much includes the today much too popular "affirmative action," which is, simply put, horrific racism against white folks, and Jews. The only qualifications needed must be academic; the previous racist treatment of a group does not - l repeat, not - constitute an excuse for "positive discrimination" in favor of that group. The admissions policy must be entirely "colorblind."
ОтветитьYou can’t solve racism with more racism
ОтветитьI hate the ruling of affirmative action I think sex race and whatever should be removed when accepting students. They should go in blind so that the people they accept all had a fair chance
ОтветитьI'm not okay with how he explained the affirmative action part.
Firstly the act of letting people know a school exist, so you can send your kids there, in a sane world would be called ADVERTISING. You don't need affirmative action to do this.
Secondly he was right in the fact that universities can't have quotas (baki and Bollinger case), what he left out was the fact that race is still considered as a legal factor. Therefore if a white and black student of similar achievements and competency applied guess who's getting in because of their skin color 😗
Once saw a documentary about Bekke V. Regents, in which a Black female M.D. who had higher MCAT scores than Bakke was turned down for admission along with several other minorities who had scored better than he had. She wondered why he couldn't have simply sought admission and internships/residencies further afield from where he lived as she had to do. Many U.S. medical school students over the last several decades attend universities outside of America because of program impaction and cost. I also knew students who attended Cal (before Affirmative action was ended in '96) that claimed white male students who did not know them, would approach them and state that they were only admitted because they were minorities. They never demanded to know from these men, how many of them were admitted because their fathers were investment bakers or corporate lawyers, or their families had benefited from generations of decently funded public or private school systems that minority students who had tested well and performed well in secondary and tertiary education never had access to?
ОтветитьAffirmative action is literally just rebranded racism
ОтветитьBAKKE IS A HERO
ОтветитьWhat a coincidence, I visit UC Davis for something called "Aggie day" about a week ago then I see this
ОтветитьArtificial barriers to entry. They keep classes low intentionally to keep doctors scarce.
ОтветитьI know this is an older video, but I think affirmative action is interesting when viewed through a societal lens than an individual lens. Those who are part of minorities groups are often less able to access high-quality education and resources to make themselves more qualified candidates. From a mathematical perspective, if one group is behind, they'll need to go faster than the group ahead in order to catch up. Now is affirmative action the best way to help them go faster? Maybe, maybe not.
ОтветитьJust imagine what cases are going to show up in the future based on how things in California and the rest of the country are going.
ОтветитьAffirmative action should be illegal, no ifs, ands, or buts. Reverse-racism is basically saying, "Since minorities were oppressed, they get to become the oppressors!" When it comes to academic institutions, being accepted should come down to whether or not you are qualified, have an outstanding academic record, and make a personal connection with the interviewer.
ОтветитьI know a bakke. Pretty sure it's not the same guy.
ОтветитьThis style of backwards discrimination is so weird. They’re just committing the same evil as before just under a different group.
ОтветитьAffirmative Action is good, actually. But it's interpretation and implementation are extremely complex and nuanced; this is a good example, of a bad example of affirmative action. If you actually want to challenge your brain and opinions, read The Theory of Justice by John Rawls (Or at least find summaries, it's a very hard read)
ОтветитьAffirmative Action may have had good intentions. But from the start, it has had disastrous results. It was only supposed to be temporary, like bilingual education. But it didn't take long for race baiting politicians to realize the programs could be used as sources for votes. So what the hell did they care about the inequity they cause? They both kept liberal Dumbocrats in office, which is all the politicians care about. Screw everyone else, it benefits liberal hypocrites who send their children to private schools and live in gated, safe, secure, armed, segregated, all -White neighborhoods.
ОтветитьWell R.I.P.
ОтветитьTime for an update, given the Supreme Court decision on June 29, 2023.
ОтветитьMr Beat ready to do the Fair Admission vs Harvard followup case?
ОтветитьGuess what, after Roe v Wade, this one got overturned as well.
ОтветитьThere’s no more debate
ОтветитьBack here after the new Supreme Court case Fair Admission v Harvard
Certainly a decision
It’s gone now.
ОтветитьAnd now affirmative action is unconstitutional
ОтветитьThe argument that I keep hearing for affirmative action is that "some racial groups are more economically disadvantaged." Then why don't we make quotas based on household income instead of race???????
Ответить"Positive discrimination," what a joke! The only positive kinds of discrimination are against poor life choices such as alcoholics, Nazis, or the KKK.
ОтветитьIt’s ironic blacks fought for the civil rights but seemed to exclude others in the process.
Ответитьpositive discrimination = progressive bigotry
ОтветитьThe irony is that Bakke was actually discriminated against on the basis of his age
ОтветитьI have no problem with defering to the person that worked harder from being oppressed in cases where the candidates are otherwise identical. Anything more would need quite the good argument to convince me.
ОтветитьFue una decisión histórica de la Corte Suprema de los Estados Unidos que involucró una disputa sobre si el trato preferencial para las minorías podría reducir las oportunidades educativas para los blancos sin violar la Constitución.
ОтветитьThe fact that they accepted people with less qualifications than bakke just because they were minorities is stupid, black supremacy is just as bad as white supremacy
Some people think that if you hate someone only because of their skin is racist, but actually, the sole action of thinking that race and skin color is more important than achievements and character IS racism
Frankly there's an even better, more refined version of Affirmative Action that exists without taking ethnicity into account. It's called the Adversity Index, measuring how much adversity & difficulty a person has had in achieving their education. It looks at their finances, poverty level, local crime rate, quality of schools, and other challenges a student has had to face into to achieve their academic goals. Many ethnic minorities face greater challenges than whites when achieving their academic goals due to these reasons and more. Many black students tend to be poorer than white students, thus the Adversity Index would take that into account when admitting those students.
ОтветитьMan, do I remember this one! I worked for an old-line insurance company that had been sued for racial discrimination. My boss, a lawyer, was satisfied with the outcome. I remember him sitting in his office reading all the Supreme Court opinions. Took him a while to get them; no Internet then!
ОтветитьMany were prejudiced against Italian immigrants in the late 1800s and early 1900s, albeit more likely due to their religion rather than skin color. In fact, there used to be a specifically anti-italian branch of the KKK close to where I live. Do italian descendants deserve the same treatment by affirmative action as other minority groups today? The fact is that many many groups have been discriminated against during US History for many reasons. My opinion based on that fact is that race is generally a poor way to decide on who should receive benefit with affirmative action. If anything, I think affirmative action should be decided upon by each specific person's specific situation or nothing at all
ОтветитьR I.P. Affirmative Action
ОтветитьA society that has done something special against the Negro for hundreds of years must now do something special for him- MLK JR
ОтветитьI see affirmative action and similar things as insulting. You think minorities can get into college without your help? Or like voter IDs. They argue they hurt minorities. You think they can’t figure out how to get a license? It’s not difficult. Stop being patronizing.
