It's ironic that Brittany and Kristen are accusing ex-fundies of thinking they're "better than" current fundies when their entire brand is their preening themselves on how superior they are to non-fundies. Psychological projection is rife among the Religious Right.

Love how the girlies are conflating "sinfulness in our own hearts" and "everybody's a sinner" to refute the horrendous crimes of abusive men and gloss over Jim Bob's "sinner in the camp" concept. So we should just live with it?? So we should just coexist with abuse?

It’s laughable that these type of people have such a limited view of what constitutes a christian. My partner is eastern christian orthodox (which is a denomination that’s probably not that common in the US) and in Europe this type is considered one of the more conservative flavors (my country is the most religious in Europe as well (both by number of total population and conviction of beliefs), but he’s vanilla as hell compared to anything that I see coming out of the states. I’m an atheist and we’ve been together for close to 12 years now and our values are more aligned. Other than the fact that he believes in god (as per the interpretation of his denomination), people like these 2 ladies would be shocked how much that has close to no impact in out daily lives other than the occasional joke. These 2 would even consider my highly religious grandma (an 80y old practicing christian woman - that kept faith through communism) as not being christian enough. Damn!

Sidenote, highly recommend watching some of Cults to Consciousness' interviews with IBLP survivors, including one of the survivors from the Shiny Happy People docuseries, Emily Elizabeth Anderson (tw for talks of CSA and incest), where they go into more details on what they went through and how they got out. She also does interviews with FLDS survivors and talks about similarities between IBLP and FLDS.

As someone who was hurt by IBLP Kristin's use of fringe over and over is infuriating. This "fringe" movement hurt many real people.

My next door neighbor ran a day care out of her home. She was a kind woman and would watch our three daughters in the hour overlap between my husband and i’s shifts. I knew her family was religious but she seemed harmless. We became friends over the years. It wasn’t until years after our girls were in school that I realized how fundie she really was. Our first disagreement was about the Duggar family. This was before Josh was exposed as a predator. My neighbor and I disagreed politely about the fact that she thought they were the best thing ever and I just was seeing red flag after red flag with them. She couldn’t let it go that I didn’t agree with how these kids were being raised by siblings etc and the fact that I always had a creepy vibe from them but didn’t know exactly why until 2015. My neighbor knew none of the suspicious things people had on them and was shocked to hear that I found them odd. She disclosed to me that she and her husband had some premarital counseling from Bill Gothard himself. It was cathartic to finally be able to put my finger on the uneasy feeling I got from them when everything came out. My neighbor was shocked!!!

they're just "no true scotsman"-ing christianity. no true christian would be abusive so the iblp isn't truly christian. josh duggar wasn't "transformed by christ in his heart" except for the fact that his fundamentalist upbringing fostered his predatory behavior. "no teaching outside the gospel can transform". it's just another way to avoid examining their own beliefs and actions in conjunction with abusive systems

One happy thing that happened to Josh is he's in jail.

I feel a bit of dejavu here. Didn't porgan react in a similar way where the one thing that seemed to upset them the most was Jill not getting paid all those years?
