Mr. Olly Richards, can you, please, stop using the Brazilian flag instead of the Portuguese one to identify the language? Don't see you using the Mexican flag instead of the Spanish one, yet there are 3 Mexicans for each Spanish, like there are about 20 Brazilians for each Portuguese...

I don't understand why people find the grammar so hard When referring to a female it's typically A Or I at the end of the word and referring to a male it's typically o or u at the end Getting used to these simple rules is a big step in understanding Portuguese Especially because it helps you fill in the blanks even if you don't know a specific word the surrounding words can help you figure it out

Colloquial portuguese throws away most of verbal conjugations. I think its easier, but you must learn straight up colloquial portuguese to be easier, that's what I think at least.

Sabía is the same like in Spanish even with the accent it’s the same thing like in Portuguese. A lot of words are similar in Spanish and Portuguese but both languages aren’t the same. I feel knowing Spanish makes it easier to learn Portuguese but there is still bit of a struggle

hint for beginners:
when learning portuguese, you can use the phrase "rebolei leitinho pros crias" as a welcome, a greeting or a informal hello

I tried to learn some, 20 years ago. Just for a holiday. I found it incredibly difficult! the not-phonetic thing is a killer. I mean, English is BAD. and no other latin language is entirely phonetic, but they do have an element of interchangeability. Portuguese, nao. And you cannot read it! you blithely suggest reading - i am not sure! If I am ever lucky enough to go to Portugal again, I will fall back on learning a few key things, and not attempt conversation.

Unlike French and Spanish, often perceived as deeply rooted in their lands of origin, Portuguese, especially in its Brazilian variant, shines far beyond its borders. Brazil, with its rich history of cultural blending and vibrant dynamism, offers a more open and inclusive vision of the language. The influence of its Afro-descendant population has deeply enriched this culture, giving it a unique identity.

Lusophone Africans find a powerful resonance in this Brazilian Portuguese, which mirrors a shared multicultural experience. Portuguese has thus transcended its European roots, becoming the quintessential language of the Global South, standing apart from other European languages still tethered to their metropolises. Brazil, by integrating diverse heritages (African, Indigenous, European, Japanese), has transformed Portuguese into a living symbol of diversity.

Today, Portuguese has become the most spoken language in the Southern Hemisphere, and the third most spoken European language in the world, positioning Brazil as the vibrant heart of a thriving lusophone world.

About the vibrant sound in R , an football announcer(Galvão Bueno) who said RRRRRRRRonaldinho was very funny. Search Galvão Bueno gritando RRRRRROOONAAAALLLDIIIIIIINHOOOOOO . The difficulty of learning a new language depends a lot on how far it is from your mother tongue. For Brazilians, learning English is also very complicated, as the origin of the language is further away.
