Game is getting better and better, and TI is amazing but it was making other tournaments obsolete so I’m glad how things are at the moment.

I play DOTA 2 since 2013... never was a good player but i really enjoy the game. The problem is the renovation of the players.

Most of us are over 35/45 years, have families, jobs and obligations that reduces the time we spend online. The new generation has other choices to play and tighter communities on other games.

Valve is trying to keep the game alive and its managing that over an older community but with low results on the youngsters... If i ask a 15/25 years old the probability on he never eard of dota is really high.

I had no problem with pumping money in the old Compendium, felt like a win win win. I got great Items and tournament content, valve got the bigger amount of the money and I could aswell support the pro scene.

Nowadays only 2 of those options are fullfilled and the problem is that the one who needs to fund this situation (the player/viewer) is the one who only gets shit for his money, cause lets be honest who wants to spend money on a fkn player capsule :D

In 2021, China players contributed the most to the prize pool for Dota 2's The International (TI), but many felt betrayed when Valve allowed Spirit to allegedly cheat and pressured LGD to give up the title. Valve seemed to underestimate the Chinese player base, assuming they would continue to spend and support the game. Around the same time, the South American player base was rapidly growing, leading some to believe that Valve saw China's market as replaceable. Since that TI, fewer young players in China have taken up Dota, with many older players leaving as well. As a result, China's contributions to the prize pool have steadily declined, with the total now sitting at around 2 million. Justice may come late, but will always come.

As an OG back to the wc3 days of dota. TI first started when I was a freshman in college. The massive prize pool and teams from all over the world was what drew me into it and would tell other gamer friends about it who weren’t familiar with dota or Warcraft at all. As the years went on and I became more of an adult, I lost time to watch every single pro match year round. But I still to this year come back every year to watch The International and learn the new things about the game from the year prior, as well as new teams. It makes me sad to see that it lost the allure of the biggest prize pool in esports

The game hasn't been advertised or promoted in any real way anymore, so people have just stopped playing. It's got a fraction of the playerbase it used to.

I still think it's in a great spot. It's just failing to keep up with League and Riot's popularity. Which is ultimately what determines if people play. No one wants to play an unpopular game.

The game can bounce back. It's one of the best there ever was. It just needs some effort put into it again in those area's.

valve's focus are on deadlock now not dota, but they dont want to admit it. the rumour is, the team creating stuff for battlepass is the same as deadlock development team. thats why they dont have time to create content for battlepass. the perks and stuff on this year compendium also felt forced for the sake of celebrating TI. otherwise they will release it faster, ringmaster and chapter 3 crownfall wouldnt released later than the schedule. even phase 4 isnt released yet till this day.

It has fallen off big time, it was fun to watch the best of the best play for a life changing amount. Now it's just the end of year tournament to crown the supposed best team. Riyadh has better prize money and this year's compendium was beyond garbage. Most people didn't really care about TI being on

its because no one would buy a Compendium that is not too enjoyable to buy although they put a free crownfall. if its BattlePass it should have been Better and more player would such BP and the prize pool would be more. I hope they would do that for the next IT 14.
Developers should listen to all fans specially the diehard DOta players out there. I hope they don't kill the game anytime soon.

imagine the greed, valve was already keeping 75% of all proceeds that the fan base paid towards the most prestigious competition and event of the game.....hundreds of thousands bought the pass not just because of some digital pixels alone but knowing they could be part of and support the once a year event of the game they love so much.....

if the prize pool is $20 million in previous years it means players are actually spending up to 100 million for this event.

but now valve wants to keep 100 percent of the 100 million that was supposed to go to the championship????

the money the fanbase gave is supposed to go towards this once a year event, not to fill the pockets of steam fking valve......steam already makes 4 billion a year is that not enough?

why are we supporting such greedy corporations? just to provide some mediocre industry standard service?its not like valve is coming up with amazing expansions and incredible new content for their existing game like path of exile or some other games.....all u do is run servers and matchmaking and some hotfixes and game balancing which u have been doing for the past decade its not like u are designing whole new games and expansions and maps and worlds from scratch and taking a huge risk on new intellectual property, dota has been the same game for 2 decades!!!!!!!

....every now and then u release some cheesy esss character and some skins and loot boxes that people can spend more money on whoopeee dooo!!!!!!

for this valve expects to be paid $873 million a year????

what happen to those days when games were made by passionate game companies and developers and they did all of that for almost free besides the few million dollars they made from selling copies of the game initially?back in the 2000s game studios were happy making a couple million dollars on their games and they supported and updated and released new content absolutely free for years!!!!!

now game companies wants to make a billion dollars a year doing next to nothing!!!!!!

And you cant win 1 vs 5 like before. All hero is balance, you cant see any player do flashy act and win the war. Its all about tim game and its totally boring 😂

As someone who doesn’t play the game but loves watching the esports it definitely gives me mixed feelings. While the gameplay itself is amazing and the content around tournaments especially TI is great, the reactions of the players are giving me the most joy. This year after Team Liquids win there was hardly any excitement and celebration like there was in 2016-2021

Honestly i feel the same way as you described in the video. yes its good that they focus on getting a better experience for the average player rather than the money cows like blizzard and riot does, but on the other hand the prize pool is what have made TI the best esport event of the year due to the money. there is so much at stake when playing TI. Dota doesnt have the same reach as games like fortnite and Leauge of legends where its more prestigious to win rather than just winning the money.
