I applied epoxy shield on my garage floor about 5 years ago and is starting to look bad, ( not too much tire pick up) I want to reapply and paint chip again. Can I get by just sanding the floor and reapply?
Thanks for your video

I used the polycuramine on the floor of the back room and
delivery door of my liquor store, it showed no wear after many years of heavy traffic. I would never use epoxy again.

Thanks for the intell..!!
I found you response to another question about prepping old epoxy floors but still have a question; if the surface is 99% epoxy, is the acid wash needed..?
I want to apply a thicker and more thorough this time; I was thinking a squeegeeing it on this time; any input...?
If i were to do 2 coats, would you recommend rolling first (thinner); squeegee the second; thicker (if squeeg is an option)
What nap roller do you recommend..?
the clear (2.5 car) comes with 90 oz only and claims to cover the same as the240oz paint coat; is this accurate..?
Any reco on applying clear coat thicker...? Also; thoughts on flakes on top of the clear coat...?
TIA

Planing on Using rock solid with a full broadcast chip,
Scape off loose chips 24 hrs later and then top coat with rock solid clear. Also have some half walls I’m planing on doing. 2 car garage but I’ve purchased two 2.5 kits and two kits of top coat.
Any issue you see I may run into?

I have a year and half old home. The garage floor is pretty clean other than some dirt tracked in from other homes being built on the block. I have a couple hairline cracks here and there. It's a two car garage with a 4 foot wide extension. I figure maybe 450 sf and I have some 4" cement boarders before the sheetrocked walls. Puddles form from rain off my vehicles so I believe I'd have to etch the floor first, would you agree? I think the 500sf full broadcast option would suffice. Do you agree?

I’ve used both kits and the Epoxy Shield didn’t last but a few years. Hot tire pick up was the biggest problem. Sanded it all off and went with Rock Solid. It’s been on for about fifteen years. The problem I had with Rock Solid was a few batches never dried. I contacted the company and they were aware of certain batches being defective and replaced it. Recoated the sticky areas but it still picked up dirt over the years. I have had zero problems with hot tire problems with Rock Solid. Now the clear is pealing off in front of the garage door and assuming it’s from the UV rays.

I'm going with Legacy Industrial Original PolyUrea. Their topcoat is a whopping 10-12 mil and UV resistant. I will be getting a commercial grade floor covering, and a better bang for my buck too at $169.00. Thanks for the great advice and the links to point me in the right direction..

Rustoleum has a new primer product that can be used over any surface to prep it for either of these finish products. If this primer is used first, it will help with coverage of the final epoxy / polycuramine.

Great video, very informative and lots of details.
Would it make sense to use an ExpoxyShield as the "base" and then a RockSolid clear topcoat, would it make it more durable or are the 2 products not compatible?
Would you recommend another layer of clear topcoat every few years (5-10 years maybe?)
thanks

So, we already had purchased the EpoxyShield kit for our floor (tinted so non-returnable).

What would be the best way to try and improve on the issues this one has, either in prior prep or after? I already heard elsewhere to use muriatic acid to etch instead of what is in the kit. And while the epoxy clear coat won’t help much, could we use the polycuramine clear coat later on with additional prep somehow? Or whatever else you would recommend, because we WILL have cars in that garage.

Thank you for a great video. I would like to coat a newly built home garage and wondering about the prep. The usual to clean it up as best possible, blow, vacuum, soap and or degreaser (although no grease on the concrete yet since new). My question is whether a primer should be put down before using the Rocksolid product? You mention the concrete can be porous so is priming not recommended because the Rocksolid product is made to bond to the concrete? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks

Great vid. Liked and subscribed. I have used the Epoxyshield every 4-5 yrs on my garage floor. It’s due now and I cleaned my current floor with a pressure washer floor attachment which really brought up the loose covering. I have “pockets” of uneven concrete now. Should I be filling them in with something, or just let the next application fill them in. Budget is note a huge concern, so I’d be willing to use a totally different product if you recommend it.

We had a water heater fail in a basement that flooded about 400 sq ft of the basement....have been drying for two weeks and the floor still tests high around the edges. My worry is that the water got below the floor through cracks and is still under the concrete. I have a high moisture reading on the tester 15-20....what moisture vapor primer do you recommend? or do I have to do something else entirely?

I’ve used the rock solid for the first time. I proceeded to wash& etch my bare concrete floor as recommended by rust oleum. The temperature at the time is 78 degrees. When I start applying on the floor with the V & W pattern, at first the floor looked evenly coated and the flakes were added. However, 10 minutes later my floors started to look patchy and I can’t go back and repainted, hence I continued to paint my floor. 8-10 hrs later, my floor looked patchy and some places look like it was never painted. I’m so disappointed and don’t know what to do next. In addition, I couldn’t finish my floor because I didn’t have enough materials to complete my floor even though I’ve used a 2.5 cars materials. Now, I’m very frustrated and don’t know what to do next. Please help me fix the patches & some bare areas that I encountered. Thanks

Rustolium rocksolid clear coat is lot expensive than epoxyshield clear coat.

Looks like PolyUrea suppliers caught on to the fact that they had a superior product for cheaper, because none of the PolyUrea I've seen (including those in the link you provided) are cheaper than the Rocksolid. Still, I think I'm going that route, looking at the Legacy PolyUrea.

I recently applied epoxyshield. I had half a bag left over, after mixing it and putting it down. Much to my surprise, the next day, my floor was dry, BUT, the leftover bag was still liquid. It never set up. I always thought that a 2 part would set up after it is mixed, within the pot time. Why didn't the mixed, leftover epoxyshield not harden in the bag? Does it need air to harden?

So to avoid hot tire issues, wait till the tires cool off and then pull cars into garage. Most people I know dont park cars in garage. They are just too small these days. Mostly used for storage. Garages built in 50's and 60's are true car garages.

I've had really good experience with epoxy shield the water-based version. With everyday use it will last roughly 5 years. What I mean by that is it will not chip or anything but it will just look kind of worn out. The epoxy shield just looks so nice and you can always use more chips. I've used the expense of ones and they turn yellow in the sunlight. Remember it's Rust-Oleum so this stuff is not junk it's actually really tough. I must have done at least 10 garages with this stuff and a body shop

I used the Rocksolid and was EXTREMELY disappointed. I scrubbed my concrete with cleaner and degreaser; and I applied a Rust-Oleum primer that was made for previously coated floors (mine had previously been thinly coated). I had one can that the pot life was about 15 minutes! It got extremely hot and I wasn't able to use most of it. Fortunately, the store replaced the defective batch. The Rocksolid looked great...for about 1 year... I started getting hot tire pick-up; then had other areas that failed. I've had it in my garage for about 4 years and about 25% of the coating has failed completely. As mentioned, the Rocksolid did not spread as far as expected, and I ended up having to buy extra. To make it worse, the coloring was inconsistent. I doubt I'll buy any of the Rust-Oleum coatings again.
