I figured someone stopped the recording. I think if left on it would rewind when done. That is how mine worked back in the day anyways.

Couldn't the deceased have rewinded the tape prior to the fateful shot so that when investigators arrived and pressed play, the tape would play the message? Maybe they didn't want to risk the possibility of investigators not thinking to rewind first
