I find the Maxpedition pouch very useful. I have the "fatty" which is a larger size and fits my needs.
ОтветитьI like the gluestick 👍
ОтветитьSo, I've been binge watching EDC for two weeks now.... I'm in trouble with my partner. $600 and climbing because now I'm putting together kits for gifts!
Well done sir! Your approach is much appreciated, you're not into cool! I appreciate that you are into both FORM and FUNCTION!
2 questions-a. How do you make the gorilla tape packet b. What size are the Mylar zip bags? Love your videos!
ОтветитьThank you Jonathan
Extremely helpful and very informative. Just built the same kit based on your review and recommendations. All the best , Carl
nice work.!
ОтветитьFlashlight? Are you American or is that a torch?
ОтветитьDo you live in the USA? If not, why are pretty much all of your links to US sites?
It would be a big help if you had at least, some UK sources. US Shipping costs are absolutely extortionate, often over twice the cost of the item!
I won't buy from any US site as I don't have money to burn on costly international air flights pumping even more CO2 into the atmosphere.
Good luck keeping that knife in the US though. We still abide by scare tactics set in place by the useless TSA.
ОтветитьHi Jon, could you recommend a great sling which would work well as a travel kit.
I'm sure the Maxpedition is great, does it come with a strap? Or a sling should make it easy to carry around whole travelling without having to have the need for a back pack of sorts.
Love your channel. Cheers
This hoopy frood knows where his towel is.
ОтветитьJon, I think a hand mirror should be added. I've recently bought a one that is meant for the back of a car sunshade. Well put together kit though. Don't fancy the Tasmanian Tiger Tac 1.1 format ?
ОтветитьSo much great information that I have to keep pausing and winding your videos back. I cannot think of any other videos that are sone information dense
ОтветитьVery very cool can't wait to carry that same case just don't know where to hold it in yhe pockets maybe just a bag
ОтветитьWhat does jon do for a living ?
ОтветитьVictorinox deluxe tinker ❤❤❤❤❤
ОтветитьI like the revised setup, I have a personal thing about stuffing the pouches with so much stuff that it becomes a ball. I think I would get a slightly larger pouch so that it would lay flat and not roll away on me and resist the temptation of adding extras..
Ответитьim a long time full time prepper ^^ little tip , dont use microcord ;-) it is over priced and most the time low Quality, look for a "catfish chalk line" its more durable and can handle weights to 100kg (220lbs) ! 50 meters for 20€ or less. 1mm diameter.
have a nice one
Hi Jon, It's such a great channel. I have followed your advice and have both the Max Mini and Max Micro. Thanks.
ОтветитьVery lovely 🍴
ОтветитьExcellent video! For those of us that have been sucked into the Apple Watch ecosystem the only thing missing is a small changer.
ОтветитьThe plugs in Germany are way smaller and have earth grounding too ;) Its a design fail in UK :)
ОтветитьBandages are the best they come in handy all the time
ОтветитьHow many of these items would not be permitted on a flight? Pocketknife is the obvious one, what about needles? And anything else before they confiscated them on my next flight?
ОтветитьLove all these videos. Great gear! Am re organizing my edc bag. So much nicer than plastic ziplocks! Trying to get a kit that covers travel /urban and adventure as I live in the boonies and kinda need a bit of all 3. Moving larger items to the car kit. Taking out a loan for the rest of the gear. LOL
ОтветитьGreat video. Thanks a lot. I also trow in 12 inca or so of 18 or 20 gauge SS steel. Saved the day once on a bike ride. Cheers
ОтветитьAs always, excellent material, delivered in an excellent manner!
An inexpensive corundum nail file with the handle broken off would take up very little space, and the weight is negligible. They are only a few dollars at the local drug store. It will file your nails, and even most metals. I've looked at gluing 2 different grits of wet/dry sand paper to opposite sides of a thin piece of stiff plastic for an emergency or back up knife sharpener in the field. But a two sided, foam backed emery board that's been cut in half might work okay for a few uses.
I carry one or two packets similar to your sanitizing wipes, one is made for sunscreen, the other is a bug repellant. I also have a couple more stashed in a smaller pack that goes on day hikes. And I also carry lip balm with a 30 SPF, and a tiny bottle of eye drops, since I wear contacts.
I love your uses for shrink wrap!
I buy used multi tools when I see them at a good price. Many, like Leatherman, are stainless. So even if they appear to have a bit of rust on them, they clean up well. I stash these tools in packs here and there and I'm not out the full price of a new tool for an item that I might use once a year, or never. I picked up an original Leatherman Tool the other day that looked unused. It had someone's company logo on it, like something given to an employee. But it was $12 US.
Do you carry nail clippers elsewhere?
Belstaff :) I own an Ivy jacket for my bike
Ответитьhave you tried the TWICK 20W Ultra Slim foldable plug?
Ответитьstrong magnet could damage cards
ОтветитьNew to EDC gear and recently came across your channel, I’ve become a bit of a fan and your videos have so informative.
I find myself going through the video description for the links to the products you’ve reviewed and adding them on my Amazon wish lists to purchase in future!
Keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing more of your videos 👍
You could probably mold something over the fork tines to turn it into a spoon. Or some type of sleeve to fit over when needed
ОтветитьYou kit is the first one that handles currency. Thanks.
ОтветитьWithout a doubt Jon holds a great deal of Amazon stock !
ОтветитьFor how long do you think you will continue carrying that magnet ?
ОтветитьLost ...preservatives
ОтветитьThank you for your thoughts and videos. While I have magnets in other bags/kits, I had not considered them for other kits like these. I like that idea.
You have mentioned no longer packing super glue in your kits for reasons... I often add a small vile of super glue, simply because it can also be bandage in a pinch as well as a small hemostatic agent. Simply because they are small and lightweight and fit into most any pocket.
Maxpedition has some of the best gear, I think. From the multiple sizes of the clamshells you show here to small pockets and bottle carriers.
The meds: consider adding a glucose option. there are many people that are diabetic out there and low blood sugar can strike easily. It can be turned around with a couple sugar pills or candy you may have from Halloween(sunkist or smarties as ideas. they are individually wrapped)
ОтветитьGood video. Honestly if I'm carrying something that I don't use in 2 weeks time I'm not carrying it anymore. A lot of less compact and less expensive items spread around your many common spaces (home, car, workplace) go just as far, probably further. A RovyVon light, a Victorinox Mini Champ and some type of strong thin cord fob with some girly hair ties around it are about all you'll ever need for EDC as a suburban husband+dad with an office job.
ОтветитьLife systems did a folding steel KFS (Knife, Fork, Spoon) - with bottle & tin opener. (I'm not sure if they do it anymore) - Ok, there's a little duplication with the SAC, but I have a set I got ages ago and the knife is really sharp & serrated. Comes in a cordura pouch, with Velcro closure & press stud attach belt loop - I have mine attached to a Molle loop inside the side pocket of my water bottle pouch.
I have for my ICE (In Case of Emergency) numbers, etc. a laminated credit card sized card. I have a second with my Covid vaccination details & on the other side, my other vaccination details (Yellow fever, Typhoid, HepA, Rabies, tetanus etc.).
I also have a small perfume sample bottle with lighter fuel for my zippo (I'm still trying to find a small, sealable steel container). Interestingly on a recent trip to Colombia, I packed my zippo in my suitcase and, while waiting for a flight back to Schiphol from Cartagena I was called to security. Apparently one of the check in staff had seen the lighter in my case and said it couldn't be put in the case as it 'could explode' - I explained in my bad Spanish that it wasn't butane, but used petrol and it was out of petrol. Luckily a Colombian army soldier on security duty came in and fought my corner. But the check in girl insisted I take the zippo in my carry on (if she was trying to get a free zippo, I'd have given it to the soldier.)
I'm not particularly tech orientated - my 'phone is a battered Nokia 105, it'll hold a charge for between about a week to ten days and also isn't the type of thing the average thief is likely to stroke - it's also a shit ton lighter than a smart 'phone - and I can scrap the power bank (and not have to worry about the risk of spontaneous combustion!).
Time for the 2024 edition
ОтветитьThe MU foldable charger is probably not following all the regulations as the spinning design violate certain rules(I forgot the specifics of it) but basically only the apple 20w charger type of folding mechanism is able to get pass the guidelines
ОтветитьHi Jon. How big is the Mylar ziplock bag you use?
ОтветитьI would like to know what kind of little fishing magnet that is. I can't find it online
ОтветитьI can suggest a little drop of hot glue instead of zip tie on the lighter. Hot glue also do the job and easier to take off.
Ответить@Jon Gadget
I have been carrying, modifying, and working with EDC (Everyday Carry) and gear for 25 years, and I'd like to give you a little tip. Over and over, I see and hear about duct tape in EDCs, and that's fine, but there's a significantly 'better' addition to duct tape! It's called 'self-fusing silicone tape' – a flexible tape that only adheres to itself and can seal water pipe leaks when stretched while wrapping so powerfull it is. After 2-3 wraps around your finger, it tightens so much that it feels like a zip tie pulled with full force, yet it loosens easily when unwrapped. This tape is available from many manufacturers, with one of the most well-known being Tesa. While I am not specifically referring to Tesa's product because i have not tested this brand yet, this should give you only a good idea of what I mean. Search for : tesa Extra Power Extreme Repair Tape
Very nice. And thank you for not writing the word 'subscribed' using body fluids again.
ОтветитьI would suggest braided fishing line as an even lighter and smaller but still strong option for the fishing magnet. 0.4 mm braided fishing line has a breaking strength of around 45 kg. Wrap it around a floss spool that is normally used for sewing. There are both small spools or a flat option that's the size of a coin to wrap the line around.
