I have a modern one that basically has all of those functions. It's called a hand router. With my workshop moving into an apartment studio I wished I had an old Stanley instead, but a tool chest worth of hand planes has to do.

My Stanley 45 is a great plane. I have learned to watch the adjustments. I can't imagine how much of a learning curve it would take using a Stanley 55.

I like my 45, but I think I prefer the dedicated molding planes.

I love my 45, because I just need one small box. To much of my wood work is mobile these days.
