Bats are incredible. Think of all the mosquitoes they are eating. Maybe some grip tape on the steps to minimize the slip factor.
Ответить😅
ОтветитьWe had bats! We hired a company to rehome them and then they put screening up where they came in like yours. Encourage you to do this as they told us they will multiply and yes…their poop is not good to have. No more bats in our attic. Enjoy your videos.
ОтветитьGreat tour ! Darwin is such an added bonus 💗💗💗 I can totally relate to having accumulated an unhealthy amount of plants yet to be sunk in the ground….. 😜😆😏🤪
ОтветитьI can't even imagine caring for a garden the size of yours while still working! I retired a few years ago and added a new gardening bed but all my beds combined are miniscule compared to yours and I'm exhausted!!
ОтветитьI’m going to take a screenshot of your plants awaiting planting to use as evidence to my husband that I’m not crazy 😂
ОтветитьErin I don’t think I remember you ever purchasing this many plants I’m super excited for your plan. And Darwin, he just makes me giggle. How many Newfoundland have you had?
ОтветитьI try to not purchase more plants until I ‘ve sunk the ones I bought already into the ground. God love you! Your garden is amazing and the property looks great! Give Darwin a hug from me. Thanks Erin for sharing
ОтветитьLove your garden. Did you somehow manage to get rid of the jumping worms in that area you mentioned was ravaged by them? What damage did they do, and if you got rid of them, how did you do it? Is that all discussed in another video?
ОтветитьIt isn't the prettiest, but tack hardware cloth over the eaves where there are "caves" to keep the bats out. Used to do this to keep pigeons out too. Despite the fact that we all love you and could watch a video an hour, you do have a life! Absense makes the heart grow fonder! With the daffodil greens, twist them, bend them in half and tie them if needs be. People who don't garden don't realize that gardening takes time. A whole bunch of time. Don't worry about what some of the people say. In my yard the weeds grow as fast as you blink and bindweed is never ending. I hate it. Also, what's wrong with 500 seedlings? Were you planning a 12-Step Program for your addiction (to plants, if anyone needed clarification)? If so, I'll join!
ОтветитьI only weed for one hour on weekdays. I try to stop myself on weekends so that I can focus on other things. You should see my neighbor's weeds. Honestly, yours blend in quite nicely.
ОтветитьAround 19 min + in, you walk up and see the puppy who is huge now, I for a split second I think BEAR! I live where that could happen. It’s such a start! Love your videos🎉🎉🎉
ОтветитьYour Aureum is gorgeous! I love mine in one of my shadiest beds, really brings a glow to that spot.
ОтветитьHow did you get rid of the worms?
ОтветитьDrip tube: “this will make sure we don’t need it”. Haha. So true💖
ОтветитьHonestly the best defense against bats in the house is to make an even more attractive habitat for them somewhere else. I had TONS of bats in my attic and solved the issue by setting up 20 bat hotels near the treeline. I attracted them to the area by leaving buckets of water sitting out to spawn more mosquitoes back there. As soon as they realized the food near the woods was better than the food near my house, off they went. And then I spent the next season meticulously filling any little holes they used to get into my attic lol.
ОтветитьEpimedium
ОтветитьBeautiful big looking garden, its the bees knees and a pollinators dream.
ОтветитьGood morning, Erin ☕️The sea of ferns does it for me! How gorgeous! 😍
ОтветитьI’m finding your garden stroll walks, as my favorite. I’m able to see everything you’re doing, have done, and will do, just love it. I’m learning about plants as you highlight them. Also great to know I’m not the only one that grows, or buys more than you probably need, I guess we like to push our limits! Please do a video when you put in the drip system, I think my plants under the trees would benefit from extra water also, it would be lovely to hook the hose up to that verses at sprinkler.
ОтветитьSpring has been putting on a show🌱
Darwin has quite the saunter in your gardens, love that he carries his stuffy with him on his self guide tours through out your gardens🐾💗
Yes… a moment in time! I remember looking at photos in magazines one I remember specifically lady’s mantle with red astilbe and I thought how beautiful, love the contrast and I had the plants but that’s when a moment in time really sunk in 😊that pear ❤
ОтветитьI was glad to see the golden curly willow in a pot. I ordered 10 cuttings months ago and 8 of them rooted and grew. I really only wanted one, so I need to find places for the other 7. A pot will be a great solution.
ОтветитьYeah, northern IL here and I had a bunch of perennials not come back after winter. A few shrubs looked pretty rough too, but they've bounced after some pruning. I've only been doing this for a few years and man, that is discouraging.
ОтветитьI just love the laid back nature of your channel. Also, I’m from Indianapolis and watching your Wisconsin garden is like going back in time to a month ago, so thank you for extending bloom times! I love it.
ОтветитьThe fact that you do this on evenings and weekends makes it even more impressive honestly
ОтветитьLooks great, Erin. Yes, we are all "paced" by everything else in our full lives. Thank you for putting your gardens and processes out there for us. ❤
ОтветитьIt seems there is never a moment in time during the growing season I am not looking at purchased plants and/or seedlings that need to get into the ground between all of the other maintenance that needs to get done. I guess that is the definition of a Gardener. Loving the journey. Cheers!
ОтветитьThe garden is looking great. I’m slowly making my way through planting my seedlings. Lots to do but you’re right this is what we like to do.😀
ОтветитьI love that you are such a real gardener. You are where I was 3 weeks ago in zone 6b so I think you are doing great. I finished my planting today. Well, that is until I see more plants for sale.🤪
ОтветитьYou may have talked about it in another video although I can’t remember you telling us what you use for irrigation in your raised beds. Our drip tubing is plugging up again and it is just too frustrating to keep replacing. Feels wasteful and too much disposable plastic. Thoughts / suggestions?
ОтветитьAll gorgeous and exciting! Thank you. 🌱💚
ОтветитьDarwin is full of mischief! So cute!
I keep hoping to catch a glimpse of your columnar apples but I haven’t seen them. How are they growing?
Didn’t you plant column style apple trees last year? If yes, how are they doing as I was thinking about getting some? Thank you for sharing your garden and knowledge.
ОтветитьThank you Erin! I love your stroll videos with Darwin. He is so adorable. You have picked up some beautiful annuals. The new Japanese maple is gorgeous.
ОтветитьI think "merrybells" is the uvularia
ОтветитьErin, have you ever thought of adding begonia grandis to your shady woodland area? I'm rather surprised not to see it. It's such an easy Naturalizer and the flowers are so pretty and it would work in your zone. And it requires absolutely no care whatsoever. It just comes up and then reseeds like crazy and continues onward. I love this plant and I've always used it in shady areas.
ОтветитьWe have bats too! Only way to have them move is to seal that area up in the late fall when the bats have left for the season , add bathouses away from your home for them to relocate to, don't want to trap them in! Good luck!
ОтветитьHi Erin! We had bats when we lived in New England and had a great bat company come and install one way doors (essentially) for the bats to fly out and then not be able to return. Once they were out, we sealed the holes and installed awesome bat houses in our tall trees. The bats moved into one of them and it was fun to know they had a nice new home.
ОтветитьI really relate to the need to switch from the plant accumulation phase to the get that in the ground phase!
ОтветитьCan you please tell me how you dealt with jumping worms and did get rid of them completely? Love your videos 👍🏽
Ответить“That’s not a healthy number” lolol love it! You’re super funny I always get chuckles in listening to your garden strolls. And actually, I think it IS a healthy number so long as you don’t drive yourself crazy planting them in!
ОтветитьYour plant stockpile made me feel so much better. I have SO many plants I wanted to have on the ground by now and I’m realizing some of my bare root purchases might end up in the compost. 🤦♀️
I’m zone 8/9 so I wanted to have everything planted by mid-May and have blown right past that.
We had bats in our soffits as well. To remove them, we installed a one-way bat cone (once the pups were raised and able to fly). After we knew they all left the soffits, we spray foamed the opening. Note: We also let the problem persist for a while until we found out they carry bat bugs (I recommend looking it up). My son found one in our house and we had an expert identify it.
ОтветитьHey! I don’t need you reminding me about all the plants I’ve bought but still haven’t planted…. I have millennium alliums I bought in bud last summer, the rest of a hedge that I bought in February… tons of annuals too.
And what did I do this morning? I needed 2 more bergenia for a grouping I planted and was concerned they would sell the last few they had. Yes, I bought. A few more plants. Of course. And a couple flats beyond that.
They had the most delicate coral geum. They had 4” nicotiana that just had to come home with me too.
I was taking breaks from my gardening projects and checking in & wondering what was up with yours! I'm sure we all have about 5-10 simultaneous projects right now garden-related and not. Also, we always had bats in our windows & porches growing up, never had an issue and I think they make a big dent in the flying bug population. I hope we keep the rain but lose the cold soon 🙏 love the new bench garden and super excited to see what else you've got planned this season
ОтветитьMy son build bat houses as his eagle project for the parks dept
ОтветитьThanks so much for the allium information. I'm trying them for the first time and love the flowers but not the foliage.
ОтветитьErin, maybe installing some bat houses up in some of the taller trees would help get them away from the house? 🤷♀️ I plan to do the same, but this year is not that year lol.
