I feel like starting small with the option to expand, rather than over-promising and under-delivering, is a smart play. Themed 'seasons' that cover particular historical events are a great way of bringing legacy factions in.
After the current armies are released, culminating in 'the Great War against Chaos', the Skaven could be brought in with a release/season/campaign focused on the second Great Council of 13 consolidating their power and once more turning their attention to the world above rather than the costly internecine warfare they'd waged amongst themselves for the preceding two centuries.
Lizardmen could be brought in with Daemons during the week the sun turned jet black in 2321, where daemons manifested throughout all of Lustria, or along with the Dark Elves for an event about the Druchii raid on the Citadel of Dusk.
That sort of thing.
Means they don't have to do everything all at once, they can take their time to get things right as they come out. "There is only one way to eat an elephant: one bite at a time"
i would be glad to see some fixes to the legacy pdfs.
some base sizes need to be updated, some unit options are missing...
Well - if they want to reintroduce some factions, all they need to do is to release a DLC called "The New World" - with Dark Elves of Naggaroth, Lustria's Lizardmen, Sartosa Vampires (vampire counts) and Pestilens Skaven (Lustria). And since Lustria and Naggaroth are so far away, they don't have to stick with TOW timeline, they can introduce new narrative in different times.
ОтветитьI was so happy when the Old World finally became a reality and I was all in to start Night Gobbo Army until GW stated that most of the units would be cast using their original molds using resin or even units that were last seen cast in metal....
Then I saw the Orc Big'uns models and my heartsank. Despite GW's expectation that Old world players will purchase Old World units in their original sculpts, a lot of us are already using AoS equivalents since they look so much better. Some of the Orc units that contain Boars have varying degrees of the quality of their sculpts, so if AoS has an equivalent, layers will likely use the most updated versions if they look better from AoS.
Some units still hold up incredibly welll, for example, most of the Trroll Sculpts look fantastic, especially River Trolls and the Troll Hag...Night Gobbos are staple of the Gloomspite Gits in all of their Squiggy glory, I was sad that I didn't pick up the Squig Avalanche Army box to save for the Old World Release...my local gaming store even had 1 copy left over and he took it off the shelf and admitted he placed it ouot back and had no plans to sell it off the shelf which I found frustrating.
Then there is he issue of which books are needed to play a Night Gobbo army which I find confusing and instantly got the impression that its a lot which means the initial up front buy in will require at least 3-4 books? Maybe?
If I could have, Skaven were going to be my first Old World army considering their updating the range and they have some really cool Underworld teams. But GW insists on sticking by their original statement, especially with Skaven saying in legacy mode...
Yet I still haeve a love for the old school Dwarven aesthetic with their beards growing all the way down to their feet plus you gota love their Helicopters, Cannons, Organ Cannons, Crossbowmen, Long Beard Vets, Rangers, RunePriests, Engineers, etc..
It seems to be already outdoing 30k which I assumed would happen if they ever brought back Fantasy...
Where can I read this article ?
I am a lore enthousiast and have played warhammer fantasy tabletop rpg for a long time, and I am looking to try to get into Old World as a game, at least try and see if it has the same flaws as 40k for a casual player : accessibility. So I am really looking forward to Old World, I love the setting and I hope the rules are fun.
I would really like the sources please, thank you and have a good day
Besides Cathay and kislev, I hope we will get factions like estalia, tilea, ind, khuresh or Nippon
ОтветитьFuture plans .. printing more copies of the rules?
ОтветитьI don't think the lag of some Faction in the game for now has anything to do with these Factions being prominently featured in AOS. If this was the case, it would be executed way more consequent than it is now. Besides Beastmen and some Chaos units almost the whole range of Gloomspite Gitz is playable as nightgoblins in TOW. This seems to be forgotten most of the time this non overlapping AOS/TOW discussion comes up since nightgoblins are not a major faction in The Old World. I know that we can expect some older nightgoblins plastic kits to come back but this will not include things like the Arachnarok Spider, Spidercavalry and Sqiugrelated stuff. All of these are included in the ravening hordes book. Same goes for Savage Orc's/Orruks wich are also includes as upgrades for some basic Orc Units. You simply will have to buy AOS models if you want to include them in TOW. There is actually no sign that this will change in the future. So there we have "overlapping" wich seems to be permanent for an official supported TOW and AOS faction/s. Even some Ogre Kingdoms Units are included in the Orc's and Goblins Arcane Journal as mercanaries. And this will just be released by the end of the week. ;-) My guess is that the supported faction at the start of TOW are only there for a more precise massurement of sales for the start of the release to have a clue for future releases roadmap. This makes especially sense when you take a look at the starting factions which never had an official appearence in AOS. So my hopes are, that when everythings goes the way it goes now we will get more well known and beloved factions back. There are actually no economical reasons for not doing so if sales are going well. There will be exclusive Factions for both games anyways. I'm curiose what your thoughts about this are.
Sorry for my sloppy englisch. I'm just a german dude loving warhammer. ;-)
Skirmish in Warhammer Fantasy? Mordheim!
ОтветитьChaos Dwarfs'
ОтветитьIf only they waited until after Total War came out, they would have been able to keep WFB going.
ОтветитьDefinitively would be interested in a skirmish game in the WHF setting. Not a fan of the rank and flank style of the old world and also a bit worried about the time commitment of such a game. Basically, I want warcry in the cooler setting :D
ОтветитьI would love to see Araby. Ind and Nippon would also be cool.
ОтветитьI sayed this to some of my disapointed buddys, stay calm when there is one thing that GW wants more then anything else it is MONEY. And when the old world is bringing the numbers you will get your stuff. So i predict its will happened !
ОтветитьIf they release Skaven they will easily extract $500+ from me. I want them to give me a reason to play the old world
Ответитьcome on daemons! i need one more mode i can bring my collection to!
ОтветитьDrop skaven from AoS too and give them back to us
ОтветитьI hope they bring back Mordheim...
ОтветитьThis is the kind of video i was looking for. Most videos are for original fans and for ppl who have played before. This video helps newcomers like me
ОтветитьThe “you need 2k points to play” is a proof GW didn’t understand the idea of promoting the game at different point levels and community pushed for moar minis on the table as opposed to actually having fun at the table.
Want to play? Get 750pts of models - essentially a Spearhead equivalent. No unit can be larger than 1.5x their starting size (so up to 7 of 5+ cav/infantry, 4 of 3+ monsters, 15 of 10+ infantry and 30 of 20+ infantry) or over 250pts and army needs to follow the usual % restrictions too. If you feel your unit is accidentally unjustifiably hit by those rules, have a chat with your opponent and agree on something reasonable. You can only have one character - he’s the general, can’t be wizard of level 3+ and can’t cost more than 150pts total. Go have fun and paint more minis, it doesn’t need to be competitive but “official” guidance would help.
GW always seem to shoot themselves in the foot with Warhammer Fantasy/Old World. Like their (awful) store should really list all the models used in 8th edition, and are still around in AoS in the Old World section. Best examples are Daemons and Beastmen whose entire ranges are from 8th edition, and having the Dark Elf, Empire, Dwarves and Skaven listed will help newer player to find them. I see a number of people asking the online groups I'm apart of if "x model is able to go on a square base" and it's a old 8th edition model.
ОтветитьThere's a rumour that Beasts of Chaos are being dropped??
ОтветитьThe notion that c-suite management gives a left handed hj about what the fans and audience actually want is laughable. Designers don’t make decisions.
Ответитьafter what happened to warhammer 3 i have pretty much made the whole thing a wait and see what happens going forward
Ответить"There's a bit of a sour note in the community" I see that you've encountered a fandom before.
ETA, 40K is concentrating on the human factions too much, I'd rather not see Fantasy go down the same route.
Avoiding overlap between factions is stupid. They could literally sell the same kits to different playerbases. It's basically free money, but they can't see it.
ОтветитьIn my view the issue with 8th was that they made both 40k and Fantasy bigger in scale and more killy. 40k and AoS havent really changed from that philosophy. Thats why its not a surprise to me that the old world is going down well. Its what a lot of us wanted even during 8th
ОтветитьGet through the 9 main factions. Keep the hype up, keep the sales up and they’ll update the rest of the legacy factions then if it carries on well we’ll get cathay and Kislev and maybe more. It’s all about hype and sales. May take a couple years but if it carries on being a success we will get it
ОтветитьStill mad they lie about Kislev and Catay factions
ОтветитьUntil they bring back the rats, I mean officially bring them back not just a legacy pdf, I wont commit to old world.
ОтветитьWe need Kislev. For the Tzarina! For Ursun! FOR THE MOTHERLAND!
ОтветитьI miss Warhammer Age of Reckoning.
ОтветитьIm not buying ToW till I see some actual effort in new models, not just old molds that have paid themselves off already over 25 years and being charged 400 dollars for a box.
Ответитьlol- the "sold out" products are sold out because:
a) they produce them in very little numbers
b) OOP models reached absolutely crazy price points on e-buy
Thats it!
It’s baffling to me how the old world popularity caught GW off guard. The majority of new players probably come from Total War and only peripherally heard about AoS.
ОтветитьIf GW wants to make a fantasy game accessible, the best things they can do is to make the AoS app more like the 40k one and start support for LOTR again. The best thing they can do for me is resurrect the Nippon faction
ОтветитьSolid reasoning. One point that was missed is the rumour that GW also transitioned from the Old World as it was too difficult for them to establish IP over the factions. I don’t know if it’s true or not, but if it is it could be prove a challenge to them investing in the Old World completely. This is especially the case when 3D printing makes generic dwarves, elves and so on much more accessible and able to be produced more quickly at a fraction of the cost.
ОтветитьAoS as a setting is FAR inferior to ”Fantasy”. That is the main thing, not the rules.
ОтветитьI'm definitely still holding out hope for Cathay. I want my Terracotta Sentinels and Sky Lanterns!
ОтветитьWould like to see a full release of the Dark Elves Army!
😃🎉
I cannot imagine GW not bringing Chaos Daemons into The Old World. Daemons were present at the Siege of Praag.
ОтветитьI think GW was underestimating how much the bad management and real lack of exploring stuff to general people was a contributor in Fantasy not being that popular. The rules def are more complex than AoS's, but I think the amount of people turned off by that are a lot smaller than they realized. I joined the hobby a few year in Total Warhammer 2, and i certainly love my Sylvanneth and Seraphon armies i've built, I don't dislike AoS, I just think they seem to treat it as competition for Fantasy in ways that are kind of silly. Beyond one setting using some of the lore ideas of the other (while changing most character into wholly different people lol) it's a different setting and a different wargame experience.
ОтветитьI think i'll wait for Cathay to finally arrive before going back to the old world. I honestly grew up more with AoS than I did with fantasy, but this army in particular...when its here, i'll collect the hell out of it !
ОтветитьRewrite the End Times in a proper story or even a campaign in Total War .
ОтветитьGw doesn't want to support Skaven
Why is GW so retarded... like all the time
I think more people should stop worrying about that's the latest release and stick to play a game they love.
Get the minis you like and use them how you want. Why not making a custom mercenary unit in Old World using Warcry models (heresy, i know), why not using Empire models to represent your Cities of Sigmar (oh wow what a leap right)
Enjoy AoS2.0? Play that
Enjoy 40k 7th ed? Great, play that!
Have fun put there guys, keep bitterness at bay by collecting the models that you like, not the game. The game is an excuse for collecting 🤫😉
One thing I’d do for the old world is make it to where it is set after the events of storm of chaos where the forces of order managed to stop the end times and reveal that the timeline from AOS can occasionally have portals to the SOC timeline open up to leave room for certain things from AOS showing up from time to time
ОтветитьPretty sure it just leaked old world is dead again.
ОтветитьLots of humans already. I think they should do ALL the Legendary factions :D
Ответить
