Someone had "leaked" the designation "Version 2", and if the number 2 is actually next to the logo and not the words, that would fit. Everyone would call it Switch 2 nevertheless but I like the way Version 2 would emphasise that the entire family remains relevant.

If they want to be safe then they would call it the Super Nintendo Switch. Nintendo usually does not go with the placeholder name is people have been using I don't think Super Nintendo switch is a wacky name at all I think it totally makes sense I think the switch 2 is a lame name that people would make fun of for being uncreative. It feels totally wrong

Anything that has "Switch" in the name would be bad for sales. The Wii U had "wii" on its name, and it flopped. It didn't differentiate enough from the Wii and people thought the Wii U GamePad was an accessory of the Wii.

No, that dumb name is Wii-U all over again. People won't understand and probably buy Switch 1 thinking they are buying Switch Two, this is Xbox one S/Xbox one series S levels of stupidity. Besides psychologically speaking, you are not making people think they are buying the newest piece of hardware, the next generation. That name is very weak and doesn't suggest the next big new console. God I hope this is not true.

This would be a terrible idea and unlike Nintendo.

Might aswell call it switch u in that case since regular consumers will have no idea what it is since itll just look the same as the switch

I'm gonna play the devil's advocate for the Wii U a bit. what were they supposed to call it
something not like "%Wii%"? the console clearly looked like a Wii and could turn into one
Wii 2? while it conveys the fact it is a successor better than Wii U, it undersells the controller
Wii Second Edition? Same thing with the above, only this time with Windows 98 jokes
Super Wii? okay, the SNES is commonly called Super Nintendo by a lot of people as is, now you have two consoles people might call it that, causing confusion. and yes this applies to calling the Switch successor the super switch UNLESS they put it as Nintendo Super Switch, BUT... that's a can of worms on its own
Wii HD? well, I can think of a few reasons why this would've been a horrible decision.
Buff Wii with a tablet and a beefier processor? say that 10 times fast.

I get why Switch 2 makes sense, but I very much dislike it. Nintendo's not Sony, they always try to find an identity to each of their consoles, and I find it hard to believe they would capture the interest of the mass market in the same way if it's just called Switch 2

Whatever Nintendo chooses to name its next system, it needs to be able to convey to the consumer that it is the next iteration of switch that it is a new platform that it has better performance and visuals and plays new games. Nintendo cannot have another WiiU debacle.

Nah, the name Switch 2 will cause a bunch of problems people aren't aware of. Nintendo can't do the Sony route. Parents will go the get a game for their kid, and get the Switch 2 game thinking it will work on their kids Switch 1 lol. Pre-ordering and getting third party games that are on the Switch 2 will get really annoying real quick. What are you here for? "Insert game" oh which system? Switch 2 please. Like come on, you want to say that for every damn game you get? Feels like you have to try to hard to convincer yourself it's actually a new system. PS never had that problem cause they were the only ones who did numbered systems. You said for PlayStation! or Xbox! Or Switch! Also Nintendo had no problems before with systems have a diffferent name. Nobody got confused with the N64 after the SNES, or the Gamecube after the N64 or the Wii after the Gamecube. A new name is better then Switch 2.

I think about a nice variant that could work for switch incremental versions could be something Nintendo switch 2.0
This way if technology needs a quick jump Nintendo can launch 2.5 instead of using dumb names like pro or x series etc

I’d laugh so hard they start the trailer off by it looking like a switch but then an actual console comes out of no where with a fully detachable dual screen portable while when it’s in “dock” full power house up to Xbox series performance.

Customers had no problem differentiating the Nintendo to Super Nintendo to Nintendo 64. Nor did they have any problems with Gameboy to Gameboy Advanced or DS to 3DS. For that matter, Xbox hasn't had this problem either. It is rather unique to the Wii U transition that customers supposedly got confused.

The world is waiting is ready to embrace the next Nintendo console. There will be no confusion. Whatever Nintendo calls it will be cemented almost immediately.

I think we're getting too hung up on the Wii U and the legend of market confusion. This, I think is something that has fallen into conventional wisdom among the gaming public that might not have much actual merit. We're all told that the Wii U's intro was poor, which it was. But I think the bigger issues were: 1. No one cared in the first place since Wii hype had just died. 2. The gimmick wasn't exciting. 3. The gaming public was turning away from gimmicks. 4. The software aesthetics were pretty bland.

Better marketing might have helped the Wii U on the margins, but it still likely would have been a flop if it were called the Wii 2 and had a tight intro package. The bigger problem was that people just didn't want what Nintendo was selling. So Nintendo was stuck with a gimmick-based console with a mediocre gimmick for over four years while Microsoft and Sony were able to cut their losses and pivot away from the Kinect and Move.

Poor marketing is a thing. But it gets way too much retrospective blame for the Wii U's failure because it makes for a simple tail.

Remember when thry called the wii the revolution at first ? We were so used to Revolution. Then we got the new name. The Nintendo Wii. We laughed at it at first and thought it was pathetic. But it ended up being ine of the best consoles of all time. Selling 100 million + units. It has awwsome games. It all came down to the software.
