A Nintendo Guy. 90% of the games mentioned are only playable by nintendo. Sorry, but your bias. There are so many JRPGs from PS that are more good than the games mentioned.

The best JRPG series I ever played was Lunar. Unfortunately it only had 2 games, and deserved more. It originally was for the SegaCD system, then got remade for PS1. I played both games on both consoles. The SegaCD versions had better game play; but the PS1 versions had better graphics and video. The characters were likeable, the music catchy, and story very interesting. It wasn't as grand as Xenogears or other such games, but it had enough back story and future possibilities for more Lunar games to be made from.

Calling out Lost Odyssey. That is a rare gem, with great story and cutscenes. Game play was generic, but over all was a great game for the Xbox360.

Grandia² I had the best experience with it back in the day. Haven't played many RPGs since because it Kind of peaked for me back then.

Fire emblem path of radiance was one of the only few games I had and beat from the GameCube at the time of it release! I had never been really big into strategy type games myself and I used to watch a buddy of mine play the game and think it was so boring... I could not have been more wrong when I finally gave it a fair shot myself and absolutely could not stop playing it!!! Once it gets the hook in you, you absolutely can't stop playing it. Is that good!!

Xenogears...

This was my very first RPG at 13 years of age. This was the game I asked for for my birthday that year and I have been a fan ever since and nowadays I play almost nothing but RPG and JRPG type video games and I have to say that this game was ahead of time in just about every way!?

The musical score is simply amazing!! The two different types of combat add a fresh variety to a game genre that can get stale from time to time, but the story and the characters are characters and events that once you experience this game, you will remember those memories will stay with you and you will never forget!!!

My man! Your list includes XC2! I absolutely adore XC2, I was a complete sucker for the story and characters. Its in my top 5 games of all time!

I mean how is this list going to have 3 Pokémon games and no Chrono Trigger? Seems like a massive oversight. No Disgaea? Lunar?

Solid list. Surprised to see Lost Odyssey, as it's a WONDERFUL concept, but it's a bit of a pacing mess. But glad to see it on a list since no one ever mentions it.

A suggestion: if a lot of your list is going to consist of Nintendo-only games, you may want to make a separate one for that. I'm also surprised you included an action RPG like Nier Automata, but did not include any Zelda games (since that automatically opened the door for a totally different genre). And yes, Zelda is a JRPG, since around Twilight Princess (maybe even OoT, when I think of Ruto and her marriage obsession with Link, or the bullying of the Kokiri children as a bit of middle school, Japanese slice of life stuff). In any case, Midna is well known to have been described by Aonuma (the director) as "tsundere".

Finally, if you separate your lists, this would also allow you to consider games like Grandia, Legend of Dragoon, Star Ocean Second Story, Tales of Vespiria/Symphonia (both great), Suikoden II, Baten Kaitos, etc. (And if you did consider these but placed so many Pokemon games above them, then I respect your opinion but... god it's wrong 😂).

I also agree with the guy who says to play some Trails games. Ditto Disgaea and Ys series. Earlier Trails titles are just only available on PC these days unfortunately.

Crazy how people are saying you're crazy for your preferences lol. This is an amazing list that proves you're a solid jrpg fan. I also love the astral chain mention. Such an underrated game. I how platinum follows through with the sequal they mentioned years ago.

Nice list my guy! Love videos like this. You convinced me to give Xenoblade 2 a try. I’ve been on the fence because of the missed reception but I know what it’s like to love a game for its strengths even with flaws.

On ps1 there was Breath of Fire 3 and 4 that desperately need remakes. The stories where so good. Then on PS2 there was a very weird JRPG that I bought from a bargin bin that was so good and I can't remember the name of it. It had different themed worlds, one of the characters was a moleman. I never got to finish it because it was stolen from me in college.
