I find this song, Jimi’s interpretations of it, haunting. He only did this song live a handful of times, incl a few more times after this England late August 1970 performance. September 3rd in Scandinavia and September 6th in Germany. Both great shows, imo. Despite difficult circumstances, drugs, lack of sleep, heartache, stress and Billy Cox developing a nervous breakdown due to bad drugs, him having to return home while on tour. There was a sense of desperation in Jimi’s guitar work and voice in these 1970 live versions of this song that matched the mood of the song perfectly. Live versions of Machine Gun, and the blues songs he did, also possessed this quality, he poured all of his emotions into these.

Simply legendary. Then he launches into probably the most unhinged version of machine gun right after.
