How To Make A Cheap Oil Drum Forge

Just a friendly critique. The music is horrible. Forging is done with metal! And I am not technical enough, to understand exactly what it all is you're doing during the music. I think you'd be a lot better off by either talking over it after production, or just add text to explain the steps a bit more detailed. It is a guide after all. Other then that, I will try and make up something like this, since I have the barrel. Thanks for the inspiration! :)

Why would you do that to music

If you are going to go to the length of drilling through that coupling to put a bolt through it why don't you put a round piece of sheet metal on it and turn it into a flow control valve?

This is arguably the cheapest way to make a forge for a beginner. Most pros tend to suggest welding a bunch of steel together, but also forget that welding equipment and training to use it safely can cost several thousand dollars if you're starting from zilch.

for someone starting out, or just doing smaller work, this is a good starter forge. Thank you for the video. however, you should re think your music choice's.

I didn't finish watching it. The music sucks. Piss poor idea using a hair dryer for a blower.

So what exactly are you using the oil drum for? Its obviously NOT as the forge , the brake rotor and hair dryer are the forge. The oil drum seems to be only a table holding your forge up , which could be done by anything from a grill to any metallic table. Please make actual forge that utilizes the oil drum.

What are you using for heat wood charcoal or coal

PLEASE be careful when using any high speed rotating tool while wearing GLOVES ! This can rip your hands to pieces, pulling it in to the rotating object. DANGEROUS! That manic "music" was enough to make me turn it off

Okay boys and girls. Just a simple tip. Before drilling on something round. 1 secure in a vice of sorts. Mark where you wish to drill. Get a center punch and give it a whack use a small drill bit (roughly the size of your center punch diameter) to create a pilot hole before stepping up to your desired diameter.

Is this plantcock?

My understanding always was that you needed a thicker bed of coals than that or you would get too much oxygen on the steel, which leads to brittleness.

Nice design but you should have lowered the top to around 3/4 the way into the drum then cut out two sections of the material at the top that way you could forge larger things and put in more wood to get a higher temperature
