The best way that I can describe the phenomenon that occurs (And negatively impacts motorized vehicles) in the Bermuda triangle is "electronic clouds".
You have to do the rest of the research yourself.

I figured it out kind of by accident with two totally unrelated pieces of media. I don't know enough about the electronic clouds to really explain them, I just know that when you pass through them, in the sky or down on Earth via fog, compasses and other electronic tools go haywire and stopped working the way they should.
The electrical current within these clouds are so strong that you can feel it within your own body.
It is also very dark inside of these clouds. Once you're with in one, it is very difficult to make your way back out. According to accounts, there are visible openings in the cloud where you can see light shining through: those are your way out. But those spots are few and far between.

If you don't make your way out of the cloud, your engine, that was already going effing nuts, Will fail or run out of fuel while you're still in said cloud. You and your vehicle will also become very disoriented and, if you do make your way out, you will very likely have no idea where you are at because your compass has stopped working and because these clouds are huge and you can enter in one place and then exit in a completely different area.

It's not monster waves in the ocean or anything supernatural. It is a scientific phenomenon that we do not yet understand, as not enough people have experienced it and lived to tell the tale.
