hi scotty my Toyota hilux raider kzte 3 litre looses oil thru the breather pipe when i start it in the morning-car goes well-there is no smoke but keep loosing oil on start up---what is the problem?

Thanks. I had my PCV valve changed -- the SOB charged me $1800, and NOW my truck is burning oil. But at least now I know where to look. And the "mechanic" is going to get all the free advertising he can stand...

Stumbled upon this issue when looking up the lubricant for the seat tracks....I can't believe what's going on here. I have a 2017 Santa Fe with the 2.4L engine with over 170K miles...and never had an issue with oil consumption. Of course that doesn't happen with any of my vehicles, as my great grandad told me back in the 80's to run a can of "Berrymans B-12 Chemtool" in every other tank of gas. Pour in the can and then fill with gas....that simple. It prevents carbon from getting behind the piston rings and not allowing the expansion and contraction of the rings needed as the engine heats and cools. Also....you shouldn't be using that ethanol crap in your engine, and only use 100% gasoline....that ethanol has so much particulate matter in it, it will literally wreak havoc throughout your fuel system, engine and exhaust system...don't try to save a few cents at the pump on the ethanol, as you'll pay the price down the road like a lot of you are doing right now paying for extra oil and risking potential engine seizure. Keep a few cans of B12 in your vehicle in the backseat and pour one in every other time you fill up your car and you will never have the oil consumption problem....and...quit using the worthless "ethanol"....always 100% pure gasoline! Always use a good quality synthetic oil as well....traditional oils have so much butyrol peptide waxes that they gum up engines like crazy after just 10-20K miles.

I just bought this Audi A4 it's badass car I think but I got it n saw the valve cover was leaking so I cleaned it up to see if it would do it again and it hasn't yet ik it will until I fix it but I just changed the oil bc it was burning it really bad but it still kind of has that smell I wasn't to sure if it was bc bank one which is the catalytic converter is bad but that also could be a o2 sensor throwing that code but I was thinking that could be a reason why but the PCv looks clean like brand new so ik it's not that and I saw metal shavings in the oil when I drained it was very little peices but since all of that I believe something in the motor is wore down and something is not very happy sucks bc such a cool car and an old lady had it had no idea what it was worth so I got it for 800$ such a deal

My Lexus IS300 was burning black smoke and then after replacing the air flow sensor it burns white smoke. Everyone is telling me the engine needs overhauling.

Unless the engineers that designed your car decided that the good ol 10 buck pcv was beneath them and swapped it out for a 75 dollar "purge valve" 🙄

Replaced Pcv valve and car is still using excessive oil and saw on the fwy that the car had blown smoke when I accelerated to switch lanes it was t much smoke but still

To clarify, as I was just told my motor on my Rav4 is burning oil but not dripping oil, you are referring mainly to motors burning oil only correct?

How do you loosen a stuck pcv valve? Wd40? Silicon spray?

10 years ago, a PCV valve would cost less than $10 bucks. Nowadays (2024), they're at least twice as expensive.

I own a 2011 malibu 2.4 ecotech and the car is a smoke trail/oil nightmare. The car/engine itself still wants to run though like you can tell its still got some type of life in it. But this oil issue i have the money right now to fix it but i want to know like the root of the problem before i buy anything. Id like to completely rebuild the engine if i can blessed on another car because this car has gotten me through some CRAZY situations in life and the least i could do is return it to its glory days. My first paid off car not to mention.

I clean them by unthreading them , then spraying carb spray through them while it's running so it cleans the hose & vacuum port as well.
