not a fish fan didnt really know what he played but what interesting and beautiful guitars! never hurts to learn somthin new!
ОтветитьWhat is it about his voice ??? It flows like molten chocolate flowing down a mountain.
ОтветитьI don't know why I feel flattered for Trey. But when you follow a musician for 32 years, he feels like a friend. Thanks Keith and the team! Last year, I had a custom-built Trey clone constructed with Fender pickups, and it ended my Gear Acquisition Syndrome.
ОтветитьExcellent, as always....
ОтветитьGuy-You-Tea
ОтветитьThat Ocelot model made me blush; what a beauty. Great video.
ОтветитьAlways love your videos, but as a Phosh fan since the early 90s, this one was especially exciting to watch. Keep up the awesome work!
ОтветитьDespite all of the subsequent 'improvements' made over the years, the tone Trey got from that original blonde Languadoc through his MesaBoogie with two TubeScreamers and a Ross compressor will forever be the tone I associate with Phish.
Buttery midrange goodness that always sat perfectly in their mix.
I enjoy these videos about old men.
ОтветитьMore about Trey's amps.
ОтветитьThanks Keith that was a treat. Been loving Phish since '95. My favorite is KOA 2 and I love all the blondes. Who doesn't right? 😉
ОтветитьSo, this is where the Firefly Pegasus guitar came from. I had wondered.
ОтветитьI've seen Phish live and played in bands with Phish heads (who I love dearly), so I can confidently say that I'm not a fan.
However I would kill for one of those Languedoc's. They're basically my dream guitar as a fusion guitarist.
Dude, you're such a nerd! You ROCK!!! Thank you!🤟🍅🎸
ОтветитьAloha Keith! Very interesting video. Nice guitars! I guess I need to take a look at Eastwood Guitars. Mahalo 🤙
ОтветитьExcellent! Been hoping for this someday! Trey belongs in this series!
ОтветитьI loved the video, thanks Keith! I hope you can somehow do a video about Beck. Not Jeff Beck, the 2 turntables and a microphone Beck.
ОтветитьOne of my favorite three guitarists…and such a great human ❤
Ответить808 > Ross > 12AU7 in V1 > scooped clean amp . . Trey used Celestion Golds to further the scoop
Its that 12AU7 that most people miss . . and its a very important flavor. Firstly, the amp becomes a clean platform for pedals . . not adding 12AX7 saturation. But also, its the 3x current gain of the 12AU7 that imparts a liquid type of sound
I've built several SE amps with just a 12AU7 in the preamp . . and they are fantastic!!!
You have to bias correctly
Assuming u have 300Vish on the B+
Use 220k plate resistor with 10k cathode . . or 100k plate with 4.7k cathode
Whenever I would see pics of Trey plaing “mar mar” I would always say to myself “Why does someone so talented play such a fugly guitar?” but I guess it is pretty cool.
ОтветитьJust for the record, as soon as you play a chord on the guitar and in fact for every non-open string note you play on a guitar the "24th fret" changes. The moral of the story is that the 24th fret myth is just that: a myth.
ОтветитьI've been waiting for this video for months and months!!!
ОтветитьIt’s pronounced It, not IT. 😂
ОтветитьIt's all worth it if you can get the warm tone needed to make the music sound great.
ОтветитьPlease do more "Guitars of..." videos!
ОтветитьYoung Trey with that Yamaha SG, his gateway guitar ?
ОтветитьYou do an amazing job on these vids, seriously. I thoroughly enjoy all of them, even if I'm not a huge fan of the artist, it's still really interesting to see their history with the instruments of choice. Thanks for doing the work!
ОтветитьI've followed the band since 1996 but still learned things here. Thanks Keith!
I've heard completely mixed reviews on the build quality for every languedoc-approximation (phred, Eastwood , ollandoc, firefly, etc) in the affordable range. Feels too risky to drop money on a guitar without getting to test one first but I really would love to have one. The Eastwood looks good, and RJ makes it sound great, but I was gifted an Eastwood and it's the junkiest guitar I've ever laid my hands on, so my confidence in them is low
Thanks Kieth. Didn't know about the Circle Strings guitars. They're pretty sweet. Would love to see you do David Lindley's Guitars. (my 6 string hero!)
ОтветитьYES
Ответить@five watt world I really enjoyed the video and was surprised and pleased that you decided to include Trey in this series. I was a huge Phish hippie in the 90's and early 00;s, clocking almost 80 shows. The Languedoc mystique was and is pretty heavy making this a most excellent resource for fans and others. I appreciate your efforts and look forward to the next vid. Have an awesome remainder of the weekend and a great week ahead. You RAWK!
ОтветитьI’ve found that a lot of guitarists sleep on Trey, or altogether avoid & dismiss his work entirely, after lumping him in with Grateful Dead, or Widespread Panic, yet Trey is a uniquely gifted guitar genius, & people that miss Eddie Van Halen & Jeff Beck’s playing, should familiarize themselves with Trey’s spectacularly evolved brand of guitar wizardry, along with his numerous side projects like Oysterhead & Surrender to the Air T.A.B, Ghosts of the Forest, G.R.A.B. & New York. While I’ve never been the biggest Phish fan, I am more then familiar with the band, & end up liking about 30% of their songs, favoring their 90’s to early 2000’s material, like Wolfman’s Brother, Silent in the Morning, Sand, First Tube & Twist, before all that improvisational jam bandy noodling around, begins to sound similar starts to run together. That said my music buddies ( who religiously follow the Phish tours all over the country & pay $10K to fly out to Cancun & see the band play at 3 day long shows at fancy resorts from their suite balconies, no doubt while dancing oddly & endlessly debating the best version of Run Like an Antelope?…LoL! ) have been dragging me along on a annual pilgrimage to the local Alpine Valley Phish shows (R.I.P SRV) for what seems like forever, at this late stage. After seeing the band preform live over the years, it becomes clearly apparent to any objective listener, that unarguably Trey Anastasio has to be ranked high near the peak, among the top guitarists currently alive on the planet today…Supposedly, the onomatopoeic inspiration behind the name of the band Phish, was the general sound of an airplane taking off makes!… ✈️ 🌎
ОтветитьIt's nice to here about Burlington Vermont. I live in Montréal and have been often to Burlington.
ОтветитьWere those guys high?
ОтветитьI thought cocobolo was a type of mahogany 🤔
Ответитьdon't know about trey but his guitars are nice.
ОтветитьI've currently got an Eastwood 6 TA PH on my wish list, so I'm glad it was included in this video as a viable alternative. I'm also looking for the right Eastwood Jeff Senn Model 1, but there are so many versions out there. Great video Keith!
ОтветитьO man! That first photo of Burlington. Borders awning in the foreground left.
I did my undergrad at U Michigan, home of the original Borders. It was an amazing place in the 80s when it was just the one store on State street in Ann Arbor. Brings back so many fond memories.
In 1989 I was a student at Boston University. My dorm room overlooked the back alley loading door of The Paradise club. One night I had my window open and heard this amazing music that sounded like a cross between The Dead and Zappa...so I snuck in the back door and made my way to the stage. That was when I first saw Phish. It was their very first show in Boston. For the whole show I stood right at the edge of the stage in front of Trey....checking out his guitar and his effects. How did he get that amazing tone? The next day I went to Daddy's Junky Music near Symphony Hall and bought a green Tube Screamer (the new TS10 model) and a blue Ross Compressor/Sustainer. I still have them both and they are the only effects pedals I use...as they are the only ones that never stopped working. I also got a copy of their demo...now they call it "The White Tape"...from their sound engineer...who must have been Paul Languedoc. I never was able to get one of those Languedoc guitars...but I did get some awesome tones out of that rig with my 1973 Gibson L6-S! Which reminds me....The Gibson L6-S deserves a video.😉
ОтветитьVery interesting. Although not really the same, the Collings SoCo is often suggested as a Trey like guitar.
Ответитьthe people who play the examples in this videos are always so damn good! cant say im the biggest phish fan but i will say burlington vt is a lovely place to visit i highly recommend taking a trip there in your lifetime.
ОтветитьFirst time I made it through a “Guitars of…” and didn’t feel the need to try of the guitars in the video. Maybe my collection has finally become just right for me. Or maybe it is because I have already owned an amazing PRS hollowbody twice (fyi selling an SE for a core is not always the right choice.)
Anyway huge respect for Trey and his distinctive sound.
I don't care much for trey or phish, but I love the channel, so here I am.
Ответить"guy-you-tay" Not "guy-ute"
ОтветитьI have been waiting for this one! Phish fan since '95... great video!
ОтветитьSTOKED to watch but commeting early in saying i have NEVER clicked on a video faster lol
ОтветитьGuyute=Guy-you-tee. Great video! Trey is the man!
ОтветитьVery nice, but whens the Guitars Of Rick Mitarotonda video dropping?
ОтветитьThe IT Festival ... that's it, like Cousin It. Not like information technology.
