It has nothing to do with overcapacity or not. To find discover the reason is simple. Just ask who benefit and who is the looser when tarif is applied.? The folks of G7 benefit from low cost goods. If tarif is applied, the folks pay the tarif not the seller. To me, it sound like the capitalist in G7 protect their interest rather than the people.

US ans EU are the same, there no difference in the way they do things. The only difference between US and EU can be sum up in the following example. US have car factory in US and not in China and so when car come into china, US benefit from the tariff. on the other hand EU also have factory in China. so if EU place tariff on Chinese car manufacturer, China could place tariff on EU car manufacturer in China. So their not much benefit in doing so.

Western countries now turning back and questions globalition as they found they can not longer exploits the east.

The speaker hits the nail on the head when he points out that Chinese think of the long term and therefore build extra capacity in preparation for future demand whereas the west and the US in particular only think of profits in the here and now.

When the US believe in "free-trade" the American send gun-boats to force countries to open up. But when free-trade is a disadvantage to the US, they invented new words and terms to justify raising barriers and tariffs. The UN should make a ruling that barriers and tariffs cannot be levied on green products because we are facing climate emergency!

I think US should surrect trade barriers of imposing 200% tax on imported products to save its 'production overcapacity'. Screw free-trade.

The USA started and promoted globalization and free trade when it believed that it has tech, economic and financial global dominance.

The moment China beat the USA in economic competition and in tech dominance, the USA no longer considered globalization and free trade to be no longer in its interest.

Using "overcapacity" and whining about China not having a level playing field, the USA is setting up "tariff walls" to protect American manufacturers and throwing subsidies at them.

We will see inflationary effects of these tariffs soon in the USA, as it is the American people who will shoulder the costs of tariffs.

The EU and the US should become inward looking and only trade with each other. That way, Global South is left to trade within. Trade wars will become a thing of the past!

Chinese products have improved the quality of life of the poor.
