I think the explanation is very accurate, even though the couple dancing Cuban style is not the best you could have displayed as well as not the best example. I think they danced NY style with some moves of Cuban style. But in general it was good explanation and I think is clear. Thanks Salsa for existing and thank Frankie Martinez for the video.

En los Ángeles, el estilo de baile es más estravagante, físico y acrobático, eso es los Ángeles.
Si se observan los estilos de baile en general, te das cuenta que provienen de sucesos pasados y de la unión de varias culturas.
L.A. es una ciudad galmorosa y todas las cosas son grandes y poderosas. Éste creció con la influencia americana y africana y un poco de la vieja escuela.
Todas esas cosas, el latin funk y el latin soul, son las cosas que realmente hablan de mi y de quien soy.
Si tengo que dar un consejo a los bailarines nuevos de salsa, los hombres bailadores de salsa, acerca de cómo bailar con una mujer, tengo que decir que primero deben escuchar y de segundo hablar... y lo que quiero decir con esto, es que muchas veces cuando se está comenzando a salir a bailar, aparecen muchas cosas en la cabeza y tratamos de hacer muchas cosas a la vez, pero tratando de realizar todas esas cosas solo estamos aprendiendo y quizás no nos vamos a sentir muy cómodos con ésto, y aquí tenemos a una mujer, la cual es un ser humano... y muchas veces ella comienza a responder con el fin de que pueda "salir" lo que estás tratando de realizar... recomiendo que primero la "escuches" a ella... cuando digo que "escuches"... quiero decir que sean receptivos de lo que le está sucediendo a la chica, es importante para el "Sentir", si puedes obtener información sobré qué siente la chica primero, con ésto, se podrá hacer siempre un baile único y tu realmente... estas compartiendo algo..."

But do we know why it's even called 'salsa' and not Son??

I don't think there is any question that this man is brilliant and very possibly an artistic genius, however, I think he should take his own advice about listening to the woman when he partner dances because I have very rarely seen him engage his partner.  He is very self absorbed in his social dancing and it's painful to watch, constantly turning his back to his partner, not engaging them just doing whatever he wants to do regardless of what the dance is demanding in relation to who he is partnered with.  I do watch him outside of that realm though because he is most certainly an incredible artist with his own unique and unmatched style and that is a big part of dancing Salsa to bring something of yourself to the dance.

What I like about this guy is his modesty, and his knowledge about salsa styles. He doesn't say one is better than the other because he knows this is subjective. Also he gives credit to the African influence which unfortunately a lot of Latinos won't do. They just call it Latin dance Latin Music but it's actually SALSA, a mix of many cultures. Nice interview great job Salsa Lives!

to Frankie martinez: just tired of your BS. are you a womanizer or something? why do you care so much about the follow -that she might not be able to follow the lead? don't underestimate what the women dancers can do or can not do! you are working backward not forward to the progress of salsa dancing, ladies can take on more than you think and they love the challenges. ..So either you are ignorant or took so much drug you confuse yourself the types of dance, this is not bachata, this is salsa dance and is lively , energetic and dynamic, the follows just have to follow the lead, that's all, if she can't do the move or can't follow, it's ok, it's the fault of the teacher, so it's none of your f business.! so keep inhaling what you are smoking. but please don't make salsa becomes bachata. it's not what the music is calling for. so back off, how the lead dances or how he wants to lead is none of your f business!

as a cuban dancer dont go to a LA style party and expect people to dance to ur rhythm the same vice versa, its just different worlds
