Property value is being affected, all over the World. I've seen articles from Canada and Australia recently and it's hardly new in the UK, the Welsh were burning English owned holiday homes in the 70's. Here in Cyprus, an influx of mainly Russians, Ukrainians and Israelis on top of the thousands of Brits who were already here, has seen property prices soar with students in particular, complaining that they can't afford to go to university in Limassol as they can't afford the rent.

So Brits struggle to buy or rent in the UK because illegal migrants are given preference, now we’re screwed abroad as well.

I live in Spain with my wife on none lucrative Visas. We had to jump through hoops to get them. Criminal , financial , marriage , health and contagious disease checks plus the rest. We had to obtain private medical cover before we could get the Visas. We are NET contributors to the Spanish economy. We take nothing out and spend ALL our money in Spain. We have had our place here since 2008 so we decided to retire there. Firstly we do not criticise the Spanish for doing all these checks . Far from it they should be done in the UK. What I don't like is the scapegoating of the property crisis and blaming it on Johnny Foreigner (the British in this case). The problems in Spain have been caused by unscrupulous property developers and corrupt local and government politicians. The countries property laws are a joke. I walk regularly with my dogs and have counted hundreds of empty houses in and around where we live. Why is there no government or local government scheme to obtain these properties tender restoration work and once completed rent them out to Spanish people ONLY using the money to pay the building and purchase loans with a profit to go back into the government coffers. That's to easy . I'm a retired builder and I have approached the local authority and stated that I would train young people building skills and they have refused. I wasn't going to make any money just pass my skills on and learn Spanish at the same time. They stated that my visa doesn't allow me to work. I told them I wasn't working but passing on skills .... all fell on deaf ears. And then we find out Sanchez is allowing 300,000 illegal immigrants residency and will assist in finding jobs . So where will these people live. If that's not bad enough it will be repeated for the next 2 years so in theory in 3 years there will be 900,000 new Spanish people . Where will they live is the question. I despair for the Spanish youth. I could teach them skills but I cant get residency for the next 5 years.

The UK won't have a problem with pensioners as they'll follow Canada and MAID to get rid of them all.

Who would want to live in Spain anyway? Moreover, there's no-one left in the UK that can afford one following Labours Tax Reich. Typically it affects non-EU citizens which in short affects the British. Fine with me really because Brits are not the only people that buy 2nd homes in spain and how will they cope when the homes the Brits don't buy - get bought up by Scandinavians or the Germans? It's short sighted and won't work as a model to reduce national housing stock being bought by non Spanish nationals because those properties that aren't being bought by Brits will get snapped up be everyone else. Sounds like shooting yourself in the foot to me. Let them get on with it.

lot of Brits moved to Albania, is safe cheap and better then Spain, 70 years retirement age? Gov need to pay young generation to have kids and stop pushing for 70 years retierment age, whats the point paying tax when you cant have retirment

Whenever I see news from the UK about Spain, I see how misinformed they are.

First of all, it's not a measure against the British, it's a measure against all countries that are not members of the European Union. Second, it's a proposal. Third, it's a government that allows someone who isn't a homeowner to steal your house and stay there, and you can't kick them out.

People are increasingly tired of this government, and many of the measures aren't supported by the majority of Spain.

The majority of Spain loves tourism, but they tell you the lie that Spain is against the British. Personally, I don't care since I don't live anywhere near a tourist area. But don't be fooled because they're only trying to pit citizens of different civilized countries against each other to take the focus off what's truly important, like "tourism," where people from certain parts of the world come to Europe to commit crimes.

It's a good thing for us, we should be keeping our money in Britain.

Stop buying Holiday homes that prevent a nation's locals from being able to get a house there themselves! There are entire cornish towns that are like ghost towns for much of the year because greedy, greedy people are buying up property to use for just 2 weeks of the year! I'm Team Spain in this case

Guy said "non EU residents" which isnt correct...if you are a resident it wont apply to you regardless of where you are from.
