The Metropolitan Police will destroy around 300 illegal dogs seized by its Status Dog Unit this year.

The SDU is a team of officers that deal exclusively with dangerous dogs.

Most of the animals are pit bull terriers that cannot be returned to their owners or rehomed.

Experienced a dog attack in March 2023, it is a very scary experience. The dog was on a long lead but its owner couldn't hold it, the dog was too strong for him. The dog pulled him at least 16-20 feet towards my cockapoo, has it went to attack my dog, I went down. Another lady that I was talking too at the time put her body over my dog to save him. Then she went down too due to the dog trying to get to my dog to kill him. The man managed to pull his dog that was a rescue from a friend of his, s few feet away, far enough for me to help the other woman up. Then the dog was trying to attack again, and the man put his body over the dog, as we were moving away. Has he walked off, he apologised, I told him that it is a dangerous dog. He replied that he wasn't. I reported it to the police and they didn't do anything about it. I still suffer from an injury to my arm and now I'm very weary of all staffordshire type bully mix breeds. I'm pleased that the XL Bullies have been banned and hope that they're phased out quickly. Alas, the puppy websites are still advertising sale of them. It is a miracle that little girl survived.

We shouldn’t be guilt tripped by dog owners into letting down protections for humans. This act must not be undermined

That poor pit bull dog taken from that disgusting creep was so starved down and terrified. I loathe these creeps who claim to “love” their dogs but use them for fighting and torture them.

first pibull was so scared like they knew what is going to happen to them. even though they are agressive (I don't blame them still, it's idiot owners fault only), it's still painful to see them being taken from home and sent to be put down like they are the worst criminals. just ban breeding any strong breeds, no dogs - no suffering for them we human bring upon them, and they won;t be used by criminals, because violent crime offenders will most certainly go for initmidating types of dogs than toy poodles or pomeranians.

Pit bulls are inherently aggressive because they were BRED to be. That trait WILL come out at some point. However, that doesn't mean that the state should have the right to take your pet away and euthanize it without a crime having been committed.

English Staffordshire Terriers are a type of pitbull. I don't understand why, in Australia, they are not also a restricted breed, and American Staffies the same. My Kelpie was nearly killed by an English Staffy. It was a well socialized well brought up dog, never abused, yet it tried to kill my dog. There's no way I could blame the owner. He did nothing to cause his dog to attack. It's genetics. I've never come across a male English Staffy that wouldn't have a go at my dog. Pit bulls are banned in Australia - they have to be desexed so eventually they will die out - but why on earth are the other two types of pitbull not also banned?

How scary is that for the dog I know the dog is a dangerous animal but I don't think the owners know how much responsibility they have for owning a dog and putting the dog in a worse situation.

I like that when going into the dog’s spaces they don’t treat them as if they’re dangerous right away. When the kangal was barking and growling he was defending his territory, and calmed down when he realized they weren’t gonna hurt him. Poor dogs.

I did nothing but talk to the dog's owner who was a college friend. His Great Dane circled, leapt up and bit me on the back. My ex-friend blamed my behaviour, as I didn't acknowledge the dogs, whatever that means. Blaming me ended our friendship.

98% of Pitbulls never put a paw wrong. The bans and demonizations are harmful and unfair. How dare they murder animals based upon breed. That is so disgusting. If a dog has attacked someone without provocation I can almost accept that..but killing them in cold blood for no reason. Taking dogs from good owners. So shameful.

I know it is heartbreaking when someone comes and takes your fur baby pit-pit mix. If they have never shown any aggression and are sweet and kind, they can snap and hurt and even kill their owners. It is hard to determine which pit-pit mix might do that. I have reviewed many cases. It is true any dog can snap, but the veracity, the power and strength they have is what makes that breed so dangerous. I have witnessed this first hand, it's terrifying. I am a dog lover. I do have to agree with bans only because no one knows if their well taken care of, loved pit-pit mix will snap. It could be immediate, it could be years down the road. I believe these dogs need special licenses and not be bred carelessly. Sad circumstances all the way around.

I support the country wide ban wholeheartedly. The same sort of progressive policy is unpopular here in the US. Fortunately for me and other Americans wary of pitbulls, our country does allow guns. Pitbull owners have their freedoms and so do I. 😉

USA could learn so much from the UK...we got a pup @ a puppy mill... which we were told the pup lost it's Mom that day/only 5 weeks old and a Lhapso Apso...she was in real bad shape so they sold her to us for $25. We took her to our vet immediately as an emergency. The vet said she is very small and probably only 4 weeks old/couldn't tell if she was a Lhapso yet. A neighbor had pups a few days before so we took her to be fed twice a day from the Mom and gave her powdered pup milk mixed up per the vet. Our vet was surprised when he called two days later and our little Callie was alive and thriving.
Our vet got invested in this pup and helped us decide every step in feeding her. She sprouted very curly white hair with the sweetest disposition. Because of in-breeding around 2 years old became very itchy with an oozing oil that came off her skin. The vets worked hard to help her have an itch free life but @ 4 yrs old her skin turned a bright red...we were told we did a fabulous job as dog parents to this dog but she was suffering/she needed to be put down. Even the vet quietly cried with us as we whispered to Callie she did her job being a perfect fur baby as we held her until she went limp.
