The German savages broke through the Roman frontier earlier than the history books said. Still love it.

According to Svetoniy Tranquill, pretty much all Romans knew the secret (of Polichinel) of Tiberiy's true parentage.
They invented the wit targeting Livia:
Those, who're lucky, deliver baby on the third month (of pregnancy)
August "confiscated" Livia from her husband when she was between 6 and 7 months pregnant.

Tiberiy was one of the most brilliant generals of the entire Roman Empire.
What has not been accomplished or lost by his predecessors, he has gained or restored.

English historians may attack Augustus by saying that, but remember English historians call Evangelical Puritan General Oliver Cromwell a freedom fighter. Cromwell exterminated between 600,000 and 1,000,000 Irish Catholics, then stole the remains 2,000,000 Irish Catholics and turned them into slaves to Evangelicals and Anglican "christians". That is genocide on the level of Adolf Hitler and his Nazis. His army used babies and toddlers for target practice, raped and tortured girls as young as 10-years-old. Ireland never invaded England. Lying hypocrites seems to be insufficient to describe prejudice and fraud on this scale.

A fresh perspective on Livia, rarely dicussed in docs about Augustus. I learned new facts from this production and was not bothered by subtitles, as it's generally a more defined depiction of characters if voices are not dubbed. One aspect which I found missing, or rather incorrect, was Octavian's (at the time) clemency towards Marc Antony's and Cleopatra's children, one daughter of whom went on to become a Queen in North Africa. It is believed though, that Caesarion was eliminted not long after Cleopatra's suicide. Thank you for the polished production.

I guess they're speaking German because they knew that the germanic tribes would eventually conquer them. In that case, we should all brush up on Mandarin.

We revere ancient Rome for all the wrong reasons. There Republic was based on warfare, conquest, slavery. The society was tormented by civil war and intimidation and political murder. Power usually never transferred peaceably. I revere their engineering but not their politics!

He was a Legionairre, in the Regular military, he attained the Rank of Praetorian, turned everyone against Julius Ceasar...

And, he seized the throne, as Emperor, of the Holy Roman Empire.

Only the Praetorian Guard can bear arms before the Emperor.
